brown discharge

I passed a decent size blood clot two days ago.  Since then I have been having a brown discharge when I go to the bathroom.  It seems to be getting heavier, to the point that I have to wipe 3-4 times before it is gone.  Has anyone ever had a really heavy brown discharge?  Did you miscarry or not?

I have had it go both ways.  Brown discharge that was the beginning of a loss, and brown discharge (and outright bleeding) with my son who is just fine.  The Dr.'s can't give you a straight answer, because in all honesty they just don't know.  First trimester is so hard because everything is a wait and see, and that is the worst I know.  The actual statistics are that 30% of women will experience bleeding in first trimester.  50% of those will have healthy normal pregnancies.  I know it's scary...but all you can do is wait.  Hang in there and I am so sorry you are going through this.  Please let us know how you are doing.

I had outright bleeding, spotting then very heavy brown discharge then back to bleeding again however, I didnt miscarry.  I did this from 6-15 weeks.  I went on to have a healthy son who is now 8.  Good luck to you.

Was it a heavy discharge?  How long did it last before you miscarried?  How far along were you?  I'm so nervous!

I had some in the first trimester.  It wasn't really that heavy, but it went on for a while, stopped, and then came back.  I am 25+ weeks now.  When I told my doc about it back then they had me come in for an ultrasound to make sure everything was ok.  They told me that brown discharge was normal and was "old blood."  The nurse even said she had a lot of it during each or her pregnancies.  You should call for sure just to be safe (and for peace of mind).  Good luck!
