I think the $800 figure does not sound right. Check around. Your husband should get the test.
If you live in California there are some clinics that do the cystic fibrosis test for about 120$. I am a carrier also but they said even if my husband is a carrier that its only a 1 in 4 chance the baby will have it. Its pretty slim. You could always ask for an amino as you get farther along and ask them to take a sample for that as well. Hope this has been helpful.
My sister is also a carrier and when her second child was born she tested positive for cf. They now test all newborns for it where I am from. Both parents have to be a carrier of cystic fibrosis for the baby to get it. Come to find out after lots of repeating test, my niece does not have cf and she is just a carrier so it gave a false positive. They had her on enzymes and took her off immediately once test confirmed negative. Try not to concentrate on it, your baby will be fine. It's so hard not to worry I know but I am a worrier myself and it never helps me. Even if you receive positive test, test aren't always 100% accurate as in my sister's case. All it did was scared us all and come to find out she is perfectly healthy! Goodluck to you and congratulations
