has anyone had a sinus infection during pregnancy

oh man, I woke up this morning with massive facial pain, my ears are plugged and I know I got a full blown sinus infection. I know because I used to get them all the time, I have taken some sudafed, I also use a neti pot as a nasal irrigation, this stinks because of course it happens on the weekend of all times right?? my thoughts were I was going to go to an urgent care and maybe get some antibiotics, I know some antibiotics are safe in pregancy, just wanted to know if anyone here had a sinus infection when pregnant and if they took antibiotics.

thanks
luci

I had one that laster 1 month! After taking stupid over the counter safe meds for a whole month, it only got worse. I finally went to the doctor last Monday and he prescribed some antibiotics and a nose spray that's safe during pregnancy. If I would have known that, I would have never waited that long!!!!

So, please, by all means...go to the doctor!!!  Get some relief!  lol

Good luck,   :)

I am 34 weeks pregnant and used nasal irragation.  I do want to clarify though  - it was not a neti pod - it was serious irragation.  The set up is a plastic bottle with a cap on the end.  There is a tube that is attached to the cap that reaches the bottom of the plastic bottle.  The set up comes with packets of salt and a sodium bicarb (baking soda) combination.  The sodium bicarb acts as a buffer so when you full on squirt into one nostril and it squirts out the other side - it does not sting as bad.  I do recommend doing this in the shower because it gets quite messy.  I did it twice a day and finally on day two my sinuses started to drain.  I am on day four and almost completly resolved. I do not feel that someone hit me with a brick on the side of my face any longer!  I also used a warm flax seed pillow at night and placed it on my sinus/nose area.  I really feel that the neti pod was not powerful enough to get into those stubborn sinuses to get that forceful irragation.

I have never had a sinus infection, but when I got pregnant this time I had just started a course of antibiotics for an upper respitory infection.  As soon as I found out I was pregnant I went and talked to the pharmascist, who checked it out and reassured me that there are some pregnancy safe antibiotics (maybe all of them, not sure..).  I was taking amoxicillian, and was told to finish the course, so stayed on them almost 10 days after finding out.  I actually trust the pharmacist more then the Dr. when it comes to letting me know what is safe during a pregnancy and what isn't.  They are the experts.  Good luck, and I sure hope you feel better soon!!
