I was told not to take tums. I get heart burn very very bad, but only at night when I am trying to sleep. What gets rid of heartburn it calcium. So when I wake up with it I drink a glass of milk, add another pillow under my head and go back to sleep! I won't take anything for pain, heartburn and etc when pregnant. I just personally don't believe it adding chemicals to my body when I can tough it out without it. But your doc would be a great person to ask! I know there is a few that you are allowed to take, just not clue which ones they are.

I swear by liquid Gaviscon.  It's what my doctor recommended for me.
