hot really hot showers and 25 weeks pregnant

I had been digging in my garden and got a bad case of poison ivy......... Since I am already taking pain pills for a bad back I am not going to take anything else so I am covered head to toe with poison. My question is the only thing that gives me comfort is a hot hot hot shower I let the water beat down on the parts that itch really bad. The nurse at ob office when I told her said dont do that anymore it stresses the baby out. Does anyone else take hot hot showers??

Has anyone recommended TechNu?  It's a miracle worker for poison oak and poison ivy.  It's available at the drugstore.

personally i think a shower would be okay. i would NOT take a hot bath. that WILL raise your body temperature too high, but with a shower only portions of your body are being sprayed at a time and not submerged. your body has a chance to cool itself down. thats the reason you can withstand super hot showers but imagine if you were to lay in a bathtub full of the same temp water...you would feel much different.

I am highly allergic to poison ivy that is controled through shots.  Luckily I haven't needed them in years.  I would suggest an anti itch bath that can relieve the itch and dry the poison ivy.  You should be able to find them at a Wal-Mart, Target, etc. They also contain oatmeal which works really well also.  You can make a thick paste out of it and put it on directly or use Caladryl(sp?), and then put on top of that.  I feel really bad for you that is horrible.  Good luck and I hope it clears up soon! Keep us posted.

Your bath water is NOT suppose to get over 100F this puts you at risk for overheating you and your little one!

It sounds like you are in a tough spot right now! I am sorry! I hate to be itchy!!!!!! Could you try some Aloe Vera on your itchy spots, maybe that will bring you some relief!

Good luck!

My Dr always recommended warm showers - never hot when pregnant.    I agree with SoCalTricia you shouldn't be using hot water with poison ivy.    I would get dreft soap and use it to wash the areas with poison ivy.

I enjoy a hot shower...I took them when I was pregnant. BUT...I wouldn't stay under really hot water for more than a couple of minutes. It can raise your internal temp, which is bad for the baby. Also...you shouldn't use HOT water with poison ivy, should you? Try those gel ice packs on the really itchy spots, and some caladryl gel or even aloe vera. Good luck to you!
