molluscum contagiosum in pregnancy

I am 38 weeks 3 days pregnant. About 6 months ago I had noticed a small bump in my vaginal area and my partner swore to me it looked like a razor bump. I wrote it off as nothing because it did look like a razor bump. I had gotten more so I figured it was from shaving and that my body was being sensitive so I just tried to avoid shaving as long as I could. Eventually when they didn't go away I told my OB about them and she took a look. She said it looked like razor bumps or a series of skin tags and she said she could do a skin biopsy of them to see what they are. On the 17th of June I had a skin biopsy done and they were removed. I went back for my appointment today, (July 1st) and was informed I had molluscum contagiosum. I have never heard of this and from what I read it seemed to be relatively harmless and my OB said it "shouldn't" affect me having a vaginal delivery. I specifically asked if it would be fatal to the baby, she said no. She said "in most cases it wouldn't be passed to the baby." So I read up on it and I'm reading it's highly contagious.I'm a ftm and very unsettled by this information. I do not know how I contracted this. I merely thought I had skin tags or that my skin my was just extra sensitive due to pregnancy and had razor bumps :( I do NOT want to pass this along to my baby and I'm very upset.

My 7 year old daughter has it. It is very common with children who have eczema. It is contagious and can spread. The bumps have a little bit of liquid in them and if you scratch them and they bust the liquid will make them spread. It is a viral skin infection. For Most kids who have it, it will go away. If it is really bad the dermatologist can burn then off. I have noticed a lot of soaps that contain fragrance or harsh ingredients make her break out more. We use Dove body wash on her and it really helps. I'm sure it will go away after pregnancy when your body gets back to normal. Good luck.

Its pretty harmless, more of an annoyance than anything. I work in PEDs and we see it a lot. Its a viral illness and usually spreads in children since they are always playing and touching.
