I breastfed my son for 13 months and I loved it! It also tremendously helped my son's health who has a pancreas problem, it was only discovered after I stopped breastfeeding.

Give it a try and see if you want to keep going or not...

I suggest you consult with a lactation specialist.  Usually the hospital will have one on staff you can discuss with.

I also did not find it painful and as Helen said, it was truly a fabulous bonding experience.  Of course it also saved a ton of money!  I had no choice but to switch to formula when my son was 5 months old and my goodness, formula is incredibly expensive.  BF was also way more convenient, especially those middle of the night feeds.  No bottles to steralize or formula to prepare...I didn't even have to get up.  I just picked him up, fed him and went right back to sleep.

Still, if you choose formula, do not feel guilty about it.  Formula fed babies are just as healthy and do just as well.  It's important to gather all the facts and make the decision best for you.  Your child will do just fine and be healthy either way.

Another benefit to you is cost. Breast feeding is free, formula is so expensive! LOL...  I agree with other posts, much better for your baby if you can feed your baby and it is a truly lovely experience.

Breastfeeding only hurts if the baby isn't latched on properly. They will help you with this at the hospital though. It is much better for the baby if you breastfeed and it is an amazing experience. It also helps to shift the extra baby weight too. It is hard work though. If you don't breastfeed your milk supply will dry up and stop fairly quickly. The decision is yours but I would say give it a try. I regret bottle feeding my first and he always seemed to get sick more often than my other two who I breastfed.

B/f is not painful.  If you do not b/f your milk supply will go away.  In fact to have your milk come in you need to b/f or at least pump.
I think that b/f is a great bonding experience and the best nutricion for your child.  If you have enough milk I would at least give it a try.  It is hard at first but gets easier...  Check with your hospital for b/f classes.  They will discuss benefits of b/f with you and can talk about difficulties.
