What Did Clomid Do to You?

Hi ladies

I am doing the oh-so-wonderful 2-week wait for Clomid Cycle 1. I have been experiencing the most God awful mood swings (far worse than PMS; I'm a raging b*tch one minute, and sobbing over a baby TV show the next) for the last 2 weeks--from before the day I *think* I ovulated (which would be CD15) through today. It's like PMS on steroids and began earlier than usual in my cycle.

Did any of you who took/take Clomid experience the same thing? I know better than to assume it's pregnancy symptoms. I just am surprised that Clomid, after (I would think) it should have long since exited my system, is still screwing up my hormones.

On a side note: we're supposed to do our initial consultation with the fertility doctor on Thursday 5/28 and I am feeling so ambivalent about it. I really don't know what to think and am considering whether I want this pregnancy badly enough to go through fertility treatment hell. I suppose this could be the hormones talking, but yikes....

Please share your thoughts!

Thank you,
Bonnie

Ladies,

Thank you for the congratulations! I'm so excited, but have had mild cramping (of course, this could be due at least partly to a lower back injury that happened last week) and, just now, I had the tiniest bit of pink spotting. I didn't spot until 10 weeks with my first pregnancy, so this has a a bit freaked out.

Thanks again for your good wishes!  =)

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I apologize for not responding sooner. Wednesday evening, I reinjured my back (I just had surgery for a herniated disk in February) and spent the evening flat on my back. If I'm not pregnant this month (and I should know early next week), I may have to put trying on hold until I can treat this darned back of mine. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr..................

Babydust: I'm crossing my fingers for you! I hope the Gonal-f does the trick!

Amanda: I'm so happy clomid worked for you!

MZR: I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, and I am crossing my fingers for you, too!

Chelsea: I am so sorry to hear about your loss, but appreciate your sharing about clomid's half life, especially. I didn't realize that, but it helps to know you experienced the same mood swing experience. Misery loves company, right? I hope the Gonal-f works for you!

Best wishes to you all!

Sorry to hear you are having a hard time with Clomid!
It is a common story. I did 3 cycles Nov to Jan 2009. The dosage was very low, 25mg CD 3-7 and I did not get pregnant but I did experience headaches, insomnia and mood swings. Similar to what you described, I also found these symptoms were worse in the second half of my cycle. Clomid has a long half-life so can stay in your system for some time and accumulate with additional cycles. I have since moved onto Gonal-f (same as babydust2009) and have found greater success with fewer side effects. I got pregnant on the second cycle but MC. I have just completed my third cycle and the only side effect I have experienced is weight gain (which I'm obviously not thrilled about but it's certainly better than being an emotional wreck). I think the protocol is to start with Clomid as a first-line treatment - it's relatively cheap and noninvasive being a pill but I can definitely recommend the injections if you don't find any joy with Clomid.
Wishing you all the best on this challenging journey!

Hi, I have taken 4 rounds of clomid 50mg 3x a day from day 5-10.
My first and second round I had hot flashes and light headaches and it give you the sensation that you are pregnant it's due to the progestrone that make us ovulate and clomid is to give us better quality eggs and help us ovulate but don't give up it is best to test if you are pregnant. I had false hope but now since I have been taking it I don't get those sensations anymore. I did get pregnant on my 3rd round but mc so I started my 4th round and now waiting for that PPT.
Whishing you the best of luck.

I took Clomid(100) for one cycle days 5-9. I had terrible hot flashes but other than that I don't recall any other side effects. It worked for me. As far as all the fertility treatment hell it is not going to be easy but stay focused and remind yourself why you are doing it to begin with.  Good luck to you! I hope the Clomid works and you won't have to do all the other.

Hi BLS,,

I know kind of what your going through.. I went did 2 rounds of clomid both at 50 mg.. CD 3-7 . The first round I had a little headach. The 2nd round I had terrible hot flashes at night mostly , and a really bad headache.. Unfortunately it did not work for me, but everyone is different ,  I wishing you and your DH SSBD..  The tww is not fun to go through.  It feels like a life time of waiting to see if your pregnant... Now we are trying an injection called Gonal-f with a 2nd round artificial insemination . We are praying that this works.. My Dh is 42 , and I will be 42 in a few wks. So good luck to you , and keep us posted..... Mary.....:)..
