Extremely High FSH Levels

So I'm 21 and haven't had a period for a while now. Like 6 months. And yesterday I went to the gynecologist. They did a physical exam (which was fine) and took some blood samples and the doctor game me Provera to bring on a period and a prescription for birth control. This morning I got a call from the doctor and they told me that my FSH level is 79.5. After perusal of the internet and some academic research on the problem, all available sources are telling me that I will never have children. Does anyone know of any reason other than premature ovary failure that could cause such significantly high FSH levels? I’m kind of in shock about it right now. I’m still in college, so having children isn’t really a priority, in fact I didn’t even want kids, but it was always an option before now. I don’t really know how to react to this information. Does anyone have any advice at all?

Every woman is born with a finite amount of eggs.  We release them one per month till we run out.  As woman's ovarian reserve decreases, it becomes harder to conceive since a woman with low ovarian reserve approaches menopause.  It is very rare for someone at your age to have sich a high fsh.  Talk to a specialist.
I am so sorry you got this news so early in your life!

I would discuss this with your Dr.  It is pretty unusual to see such a high FSH in someone so young.  The first thing that needs to happen is a medical exam.  There are some medical reasons for high fsh such as autoimmune disorders.  Even heavy smoking can cause it.

High FSH does not mean there aren't any high quality eggs left, it just means your reserve is less then normal.  We are born with a certain amount of eggs and unfortunately nothing will increase that amount.  Some do believe that you can improve the quality of the eggs remaining as per the advice given above.

This does not mean you will never have children.  It can possibly mean that you need extra help in conceiving and fortunately there are other options for you such as donor eggs if it comes to that.

I strongly urge you to see a specialist and start the investigative procedure.  I wish you all the best.

3totally agree with trying43, you can also add maca to everything that has been mentioned above, this nourishes the endochrine system of which the overaies are part of, it also help regulate yopur hormones without actually containing any hormones itself

There are things you can do to naturally reduce fsh levels.  Wheat grass, dhea, royal jelly, b6, folic acid, are some.  You can combine those with acupuncture .  Also fsh levels can fluctuate month to month.  It usually takes about 3 months of the above to start working.  Others have conceived with high fsh levels so don't give up yet.  Good luck.
