Concern about minimal fetal movement today

Hey all,

At what point do you all get concerned and call the doc regarding fetal movement? Most days he's very active and "visible". He is usually wiggling up a storm when I go to bed around 11pm and then also wiggling up a storm when I wake up in the morning (around 6am). He's often fairly quiet during the day (sleeping I presume) but I do feel movement throughout the day.

Last night was fairly quiet and so was this morning. I've felt small bumps and nudges but not the normal cart-wheels I'm used to. Yesterday, aside from the quiet 11pm-hour, he was active as normal.

What would you gals do? Not sure if I'm being over-worried.

It could be how the baby is positioned today too. My little one likes to occasionally turn inward and I can only feel little movements and some kicks to my bladder (how nice), however, when baby is facing outward, I can feel a lot more during the day. (27w5d)

As long as you are feeling him move around, even if it isn't as aggressive or as strong of movements, it is a good sign that all is well.  I had days like that also.

It never hurts to call your dr to ease your mind tho.

It's funny cause my doctor gave me a kick count card and I wasn't even supposed to start counting until the 30th week.  My Dr. said that I should feel at least 10 kicks during the day...or 6 kicks after eating/drinking something and laying down.  You sound like you're little one is just fine!  I'm 36 weeks now and I go in for NST tests twice a week to check her out and she's doing just great.   Keep us posted.

Thanks gals,
I called the doc and they had me eat something and drink something sugary and then lay on my left side for 30 mins and count kicks. That first 30 mins I only counted 2 flutters and no real kicks and at 25 minutes I though, hmmm, is the nurse going to call back on time because I'm pretty nervous now. Two minutes later she called...right on the button.

She told me they wanted me to go to Labor & Delivery for monitoring but the problem was that this was taking place right at rush hour, my husband was at work and I had my two kids home with me so it would take me close to 1.5 hours to get to them. So then she asked me what I ate and it turns out what I thought was sugary wasn't. She put me on hold, talked to the doc, came back and asked me to eat and drink LOTS more sugar, lay down and monitor for 30 more minutes so they'd have a solid hour of kick counts.

So, I downed the sugary stuff and waited...For about 5 minutes of that 30 minute period the little guy banged out a bunch of kicks so I finished the 1 hour period with 12 kicks...considered normal.

The nurse called back right on time again and asked for the kick count and said, "Whew, girl. You gotta get you some good sugar in that house of yours and keep that kid kickin'." That cracked me up. At any rate I'm still supposed to monitor during his active hours (10:30 (now) and in the morning) and report back first thing in the .AM.

Honestly the movement has been NOTHING all day today ... it seems like those 12 counts were all there was, which is not really true but it's definitely been 24 hours of "much less than normal". Unless he starts kicking up his storm as usual within the next 15 minutes my guess is that I'll be in Labor & Delivery tomorrow morning being monitored.

I'm not nervous-nervous like I'm really thinking something's wrong, but I am very aware of the "quiet" and that it is a definite departure from what has been normal. So, could you gals say prayers that he keeps me up all night? I need to feel him :0).

I'm 28w2d so it's WAY too early for any issues.

Call your doctor. He will probably have you do a kick count or maybe have you come in for an ultrasound.
