vaccines

Im a FTM and im due monday, I told my husband that I would like all immediate family to have their flu shot and tdap. My family all have agreed and have gotten both. My husbands family are refusing saying they have never had the flu shot and dont like needles or some other excuse. Im furious and really dont want them to hold the baby in the hospital! Both of his brothers have been sick for weeks this winter and my MIL doesn't like needles. I am terrified of needles but I still got both. I am having a c section and dont want me or my child to be exposed to any illnesses. Am I being completely unreasonable?!

It's your baby and you don't have to let anyone come near if you don't want to but vaccines are a big deal and everyone won't have the same views as you on getting them. Maybe ask your husband to stress the importance of the situation to them and hope they change their minds. In the end it's their bodies and decision. You want that time to be special and not turn into a family feud if you turn his family away.

I dont think its unreasonable, however I dont plan on getting flu shots before my son arives. I did have everyone get the pertussis shot in my family because it has been going around this season where I live. I dont like the flu shot because everytime I have gotten the shot I have gotten sick anyways...lol so I just dont think if works for me. If someone isnt able to get the shot ir doesnt want to then I would suggest having them use hand sanitizer before holding tge baby. And if they have any signs of sn illness have them wear a hospital mask around the baby. Thats shat I did with my daughter when she was born. And she didnt get sick or anything.

It is highly recommended that these who will be near infants have both vaccines. Some hospitals won't even let children on the maternity floor if they have not been vaccinated. So I don't think you are being unreasonable at all. I would just make the rule that everyone washes their hands and if they are sick in the smallest way then they need to stay away.

No, honey, I don't think you are being unreasonable.  If your baby get whooping cough from one of those loving relatives, it could be life-threatening.
