Excellent information. This is invaluable information for one to know, even if you are not pregnant. I am a diabetic and never knew that this could be a result of increased glucose in the blood, a yeast infection and bacteria..
Mmartin - if these doctor's give you any "headaches" about this finding in your urine, tell them to test your blood. If you were consuming alcohol, there would be evidence in your blood. I wouldn't let a doctor give me any grief over the urine findings AND being pregnant without telling him/her to test my blood. With them being medical professional', you would think they would already know about yeast infections and urine proteins levels and baterium..
Thanks Deb.

Thank goodness that 'mexdeb' cleared this up. I would hate to see you accused of something when you are NOT drinking....
I just found some information as I remembered it happened to a friend when she had a bladder infection. Hope this helps or is at least relevant to your case:
Diabetics have glucose in their urine. If
the diabetic also has a yeast infection, a bladder infection or
another bacterial infection, the yeast or bacteria may start to feed
on the glucose. Yeast and bacteria produce ethanol as a biproduct when
feeding off of sugars. (This is also the same process used to make
alcohol in the first place. Kind of fun to think that every time you
have a drink you're gulping down a whole slew of yeast droppings.) In
any case, this yeast-biproduct, ethanol, is what is tested for in the
alcohol urine test. So yes, if a diabetic has the right sort of
bacterial or yeast infection, they can test positive for alcohol even
if they have never had a drop of alcohol in their life."
That is very strange! Have you ingested any over the counter medicines, products or foods? Nyquil, Listerine, fruit cake? That's the first thing that came to mind...Although, I know Nyquil is a huge no-no for pregnant women because it does contain a small trace of alcohol...and because of the holidays, many foods and desserts are spiked with traces of alcohol...other than that, I'm stumped. When can they tell you what it is from?
