Quick Update

Hi all, and thank you so much for the prayers, notes and messages.  It has been quite the few days for us.  Debbie told you the story.  My placenta was not supporting him properly for the last few weeks.  It hadn't stopped completely, but was not doing what it was supposed to. It was basically disintergrating.   I had some fluid, but very little.  We have no idea why this happened.  The amazing thing is, he is perfect!  Tiny, but fine.  He has jaundice now as well, but that has nothing to do with what happened.  I am mostly angry that this wasn't noticed or caught earlier, and have no idea how that could be.  He is having no problem breathing at all and yesterday started nursing like a champ!!  I am healing well and was released this evening...sore, but fine.  I will be spending the majority of the time at the hospital until he is released.  He is not on a respirator, nor did he ever need to be.  He just needs to eat more so that his blood sugar stabalizes, and should be out from under the lights tomorrow.  We are hoping he is home tuesday, but it could be wed. or thurs.  I saw someone metioned the long nails....he has those as well.  They are incredibly long.  I need to go have a little nap, eat something, then we are going back to the hospital.  He is receiving the most incredible care, I just love his nurses.  He is a snuggler and loves to cuddle...he also has a bit of an attitude...lol.  I am so in love I just can't even put it into words.  He did not come into this world the nice calm way I had hoped, but he is here, safe and basically healthy.  He is alert, knows mine and his daddie's voices and his nurses say he is doing everything a newborn should do or would be expected to do.  He is not in any danger whatsoever.  He is just amazing!!!!!    Anyway, the next few days will be hectic and I just want my baby boy home, but I wanted to thank you all.  Your thoughts and prayers mean so much.  He is going to be fine!!  Love you all, and talk to you when I can.  XOXO  Amanda

Amanda, I haven't been on in a few days, and missed your post regarding your precious angel. I am rejoicing with you that your little man is doing well. We know what the devil meant for bad, God turn it around for our good; and this little man will be just fine.  I will continue to keep you both in my prayers and thoughts. I love you girl!

Congrats to you and hubby...And welcome little Ryder

Ok, last update here, then I have to move this to a journal.  Thanks again for all the good wishes, prayers and positive thoughts.  They are clearly working.  Ryder is off his IV!!!  We are so excited.  His blood sugar has been stable without it since midnight last night and he is continuing to eat really well.  The jaundice came back a bit, but so far very mild.  He did not have to go back into the sunbed. Tomorrow morning they will test both again, and if all is well, we might get to bring him home thursday, friday latest.  Now, he could still have a setback, but they don't think so.  We had a wonderful day with him and Warren and I both are madly crazy in love with our little boy.  Thank you everyone, the power of all this prayer and positivity make such a difference. I love you all so much and truly appreciate it!  XOXO

Oh heavens... You sure have been through quite a bit with the arrival of Ryder. I am so happy to the point of tears that he is doing so well. I had been checking on your updates and did see that you had delivered. BUT as you will soon see having a newborn in your arms all the time it is kinda hard to type a proper response. :)
I cannot wait to see pics!
Much love to you and Ryder my dear friend!!

Hugs!

Well it sounds like Ryder name is now "Little Ryder"  He will be just fine and just think he will have a nice tan after being under the tanning bed.  Gavin's sugar dropped very low when I was giving birth to him and they needed to give him meds until his sugar count got stable as well.  Little Ryder will be home for your birthday - Yipee...what an awesome birthday gift.  It's just so much nicer when they are home and in there little bed.  I'm so glad nursing is going so well, that's awesome.  I would suggest you keep pumping when he's not nursing so you can establish a good milk supply.  But I'm so glad he took the breast so well.  Isn't it the best bond ever.  Keep up the good work Mommy and tell Warren congrats on becoming a daddy.  I'll chat with you soon.

Love Ya Girl!

Amanda I am so happy for you and so pleased to hear that Ryder is doing so well!  He sounds just perfect :)  Yes I have shed tears reading all of this today, but tears of happiness for you and your family.  No you shouldn't have had to go through what you did but try and put that behind you for now, you can take it out and examine it again at a later date, maybe write your concerns down.

I can see him in my minds eye and he is adorable!

Blood sugar at 4.3....Yay!!!  Tomorrow they will turn off the IV and see if he maintains it.  They will also test again for jaundice.  If all is well and he maintains for 48 hours, he gets to come home!!!!  Hoping with all my heart he is home for the weekend.  He has also gained a tiny bit of weight, although once the IV if off he may drop a bit. It's fine though as long as that blood sugar stays where it needs to be and the jaundice stays away!!  Keep your fingers crossed!

So glad to hear Ryder is doing well. I was out of Medhelp this weekend so when I logged out I was aghasted to learn your doc did not figure out the placenta stopped working at 35 weeks. Here, where I live, no matter what in your last trimester, they monitor your contractions every week to make sure your baby is not under stress. So I agree with you being upset with your doctor! Anyway I have been there before, my first kid in the NICU so I completely understand what you are giong through. And I am glad Ryder is doing well to go home soon! Woohooo!

Hubby and I gave each other high-fives every time Jazmine pooped during her first 2 days off life.  That quickly changes though ;-)   Lets just say Hubby dry heaves every time he has to change the diaper genie...... LOL

I completely get how important it is to have loving nurturing nurses.  You want someone to handle your baby with TLC and so many just don't have the gentle bedside manner or care for that matter.  My nurses were 50/50 some were better than others, and I always was petrified one of them would drop my baby!!   I'm glad Ryder is in such a warm environment...No one can give your child the love and comfort that its Mother can.  I know you can't wait to get him home, and just hold him quietly...it's the best.

Oh the IV in the head is the worst! Cooper had one on each side, we always joked he looked like Shrek!

Glad to hear he is making such great progress!!!!!!

I truly hope he will be home for your Birthday!!!!!!!

Sorry I'm not posting on anyone else's threads right now.  As soon as he is home life will be more normal...I think..lol.

Just home from the hospital again for a quick nap then we are heading back.  Ryder is out of his "tanning bed" now....yay!!!!  This means we can hold him tonnes..not just a few times a day.  He pooped again on his own, so it looks like everything is normal there.  This is all great news...never thought I would be so excited to change a poopy diaper...lol. He nursed longer then he has so far plus took more formula (he really prefers Daddy giving him his bottle...I will post a pic later, it's sooo cute).  Still has his IV in, but they moved it to his head.  It bothered me a bit, but he kept somehow knocking it out of his little hands, so they said this is better, it means not having to put it back in as often.  They were able to decrease his glucose today and will test him this evening to see where his blood sugar is at.  He won't be home tomorrow as we were hoping, but the staff seem to think he should be home for the weekend.  My birthday is this weekend and that would be sooo perfect.  He is doing great still and we are so happy.  It's awful to have to leave your baby in the hospital, but I know right now that that is the best place for him.  I just can't say enough about the nurses there...they are truly incredible and so loving.

Thanks for the continued good wishes.  I am loving being a mom even if it's not full time yet.  Soon that will change, especially if he keeps doing as well as he is doing!!!
