At genetic place they offer you counciling, ultrasound and the amniocentesis ...I got counciling, ultrasound (even ask 4 pic.) 2d/3d/4d and they measure the baby and  i decline the amniocentesis....=)
Don't worry you could just be stressing yourself and the baby...just think positive because pregnancy is stressful as it is..imagine adding more stress in to your life and you still have a long way to go...
Im not gonna tell you I'm not a little scare ...I am
I got pregnant 2 months after mc...I wasn't gonna take a chance...I want this baby soo bad..I have a boy and a girl...I love my kids soo much and I can't wait to have this baby...soo anxious

I dont think I want to get the amneo the dr said I dont need to be worried. But I can't help it. My screening came back 1/1800 , witch is really good, even with the echogenic foci( the bright spot) it went to 2/1800 or 1/900. So my chances are low, but with her fathers sister having a baby with down syndrome. I just worry. No they didnt offer genetic counseling but  I would love to do it. I'm deffently calling then tomorrow, by just getting this info I'm so worried, but really I would just like to be prepared, you would think because of the physical abnormalities an ultra sound would help to determine with out the amneo....

At my 20 week scan they found a spot on my baby's heart and more fluid in one of her kidneys. My sequential screening test came back "low" . I'm 18 and this is my first pregnancy so I was extremely confuzed and emotional and to be it sounded like the odds were against us. However The Dr at maternal. fetal medicine told me those two factors are only soft markers for down syndrome and that he believed I should get a growth scan in 6wks instead of going with the amniocentesis.  He made sure I knew an amnio was an option but told me that they are seeing more and more baby's with spots on there hearts everyyday due to how advanced the ultrasound machines are and that in most cases the spot goes away on its on. I chose to go with the growth scan in 6wks and the spot was gone.  One of my baby's kidneys still has slightly more fluid than the other but they said they are functioning properly and there is no blockage so not to worry...basically I'm happy I didn't go with the amniocentesis.  My mom got an amniocentesis when she was pregnant with me and it left me with a scar on my chest hand and ankle that the design said would go away and 18 yes later I still have. The Dr doing the amnio misjudged how close he was to me and the needle went thru my skin. My mom had already signed papers beforehand so its not like she could sue ..ask yourself if the benefits of knowing 100% outweigh the risks. Also when you go for a growth scan the spot on her heart could be gone:) ...if you do did get an amnio n it came positive for DS would you terminate?? If not I wouldn't risk getting an amnio......good luck and keep us updated :)

I had amnio with my pregnancy when my first trimester screen came back as 1:13 for DS (by the way, my son is completely typical). With any invasive test like this there is a certain element of risk.  The risk associated with a complication due to amnio is 1:400 (that is in the US and Canada, not sure about elsewhere).

There is no other test that can tell you 100% for certain with the exception of CVS which takes place around 12 or 13 weeks. The most common complication from amnio is pre term labor.  Other's include infection.  The benefits to knowing for certain are proper preperation for the birth...emotionally and physically.  Babies born with DS do require special treatment at birth, and knowing for certain helps your Dr's be prepared if this in fact the case.

I have no regrets over doing amnio.  It was the right choice for me.  Everyone is different, and you need to do what is right for you.  I would strongly recommend having an open conversation with your Dr.   There is a very good chance he or she can put your fears to rest without anymore testing.  If they recommend amnio, find out who would be performing it, how experienced they are and don't be afraid to ask a ton of questions.

Whatever you decide, I wish you well.

Even if the baby does have downs, it's very unlikely she would die from it, and a lot of kids with downs do just fine, bring joy to their families just like any other child. If you weren't that worried before talking to that other woman, I wouldn't worry now. The amnio does carry significant risks, and going into labor at your stage would be very bad for the baby. I'd request to see a genetic counselor and a perinatologist (high-risk OB). The perinatologist has better equipment and therefore can get a better view of the baby and let you know what if anything you're dealing with. That's how I found out my baby was fine. They found an echogenic spot in her bowels, a soft marker for downs and cystic fibrosis, but she was able to do an ultrasound on my baby to show me the spot was completely gone. If I had done an amnio, I would have risked my baby for nothing...Even before the perinatologist's ultrasound though, I decided no matter what I wasn't going to do an amnio. I'm becoming a single mom too but no matter what, this is my little girl and I'm going to love her and give her the best life I can. If you do decide to go with the amnio, I'd just recommend you get another detailed scan and some specialist care first.

With my first pregnancy they told me my chances of having my baby with Downs syndrome was 1/177. I cried sooo much! They sent me for another ultrasound and a genetic counselor. They took family history for both me and my husband. They told me at that visit that the ultrasound was great. And they gave me the option of an amneo.  I rejected it because if NY baby were to have Downs or not I already accepted it! And I didn't want any fingers to be pointed if my baby did have Downs, as to who carried the gene. But thanks to God my baby was healthy with no Downs. I suggest you don't. And listen to the other moms who say enjoy your pregnancy and growing baby! I hope everything turns out great for you.

I heard that the bright light on the baby's heart by itself without any other sign...it could be nothing...
I went to the genetic place and got counciling, ultrasound 2d/3d/4d split screen at 21 weeks...that day he was really active and he was already position facing down....he was yawning and dr told me he had a good profile...I ask for pictures...I think his handsome...too bad I can post my pic... my phone won't allowed me...>=(

Did not agree on the amniocentesis =)

I say don't do the amino. All you're going to do is stress out more if the results come back bad. It's also not worth the risks. You can raise a healthy or a sick baby by yourself! There's lots of single moms out there!! ( I was a single mom with my first for 3 years, so I understand the worries and struggles.) Keep your was up high and try to stay positive!!

You can get the amnio done, the risk of losing the baby is about 1 in 200, but in all honesty at 27 weeks if the results come back bad what are you going to do? There is nothing medical they can do to "fix" it, they will then just give you the option of terminating, which would be pretty hard so late as you've already bonded with baby and you would be put into labour and have to give birth. Good luck with everything, do what feels right for you, hopefully your little bub is happy and healthy!

Thats exactly what happend to me, the bright spot & I was good until I talked to his sister, & even tho my screening was real low I'm just kinda scared. I wish there was something else they could do beside the amneo,I mean down syndrome is genetic right? Or if there was someone to talk to me about it. Im just going to keep praying

I say don do anything just wait relax and enjoy your pregnancy.....
Time will tell...you don't want to do nothing that you look back and say...only if I wouldnt have done this...trust me
I'm just waiting as well...my blood work was normal ...but the dr found calcium deposit "bright light" on my baby's heart...I did not do the amniocentesis...now I'm 38weeks and 3 days...the only thing that worries me right now is my baby being too big...dr wants me to watch my diet...lol
I have everything ready and I'm getting really anxious..I want to meet him already :)

I just dont kno what to do I'm stressed out, I'm going through all this alone & it's hard enough to raise a healthy child alone... When I got my screening done I was 1/1800 even with the echogenic foci I'm 1/900 & an average person in my category is 1/290. But I just can't stop crying

I suggest u do research on both the foci and the amnio because it might give u a better idea but I will say that I thought about having an amnio because me and my bf have the sickle cell trait so there is a chance my baby may have the disease but when I did my research i saw that with an amnio comes the risk for preterm labor so i decided i would wait until she is born! I would talk to ur doc and see what they suggest! Good luck :)

At this point in pregnancy I think the amino can cause preterm labor and still possibly cause you to loose the baby. I know it can cause preterm labor, but I'm not 100% on the losing the baby. My advice is either talk to your Dr, or Google the risks of having an amino done at 27weeks. Good luck.
