I have to do the 3 hour friday ugh....that stuff gave me heartburn right away and kinda nauseated from all the sugar. I got the lime which is sprite but very very sweet lol i heard the lemon is so much better. Also made my mouth thick and mucusy ugh lol I say the first sip was really good but after that i couldnt drink anymore. Do you have to drink the 8oz in a certain time frame??? Thata lot of sugar at once! I know the cup one in 5min was a little difficult for me to be honest.
Haha you know what's funny about this test, I CAN'T have any of the drinks, because I am allergic to them! AHAHA
So my option is eating this certain brand of jellybeans, which is awfully sugary and *****! You have to eat a certain amount in 5 minutes, and they are so hard to chew! But it *****, they wont let you leave the lab to even go to the bathroom lol...
I was never told to be eating on a certain diet before hand. Which is weird. I ate whatever I wanted before that.
hi im just wondering do you have to get the test i never had it with my other 2 kids
My doctor's office gave me a small bottle of the "Glucola" as they called it. I was able to put it in the fridge so it was nice and cold when I drank it, and it wasn't bad at all, in my opinion (I had the orange).
For the one hour test, I had made sure not to drink sodas or eat anything sweet all day, but I still came up with a score that was just over the "cap" of 140 (mine was 146). Some doctors use 130 as the cap tho. It quite possibly could have been that I ate some crackers before I left for my appt, or that I had been drinking a ton of water for my ultrasound. It was just a little fluke.
I ended up having to go for the big 3 hour glucose test at the hospital tho. Aside from being *super* hungry (and tired from waking up so early), it wasn't too bad. For that you have to fast after midnight, then go in and get your blood drawn 4 times (your fasting blood draw, then they have you drink a more concentrated glucola, and draw your blood three more times over the next three hours). I was there from 8 am till almost noon. I passed that test. =D Only had one abnormal reading, and I had taken a nap just before that one ...which was kinda weird. *shrugs*
Good luck with your GTT!! Don't stress about it too much!! It's not as bad as everyone thinks! =D
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh that thing!! I got ya the nurse warned me about that 3 hour testing I was like holy **** no thanks!! Yeah my hospital makes you sit around for the full 3 hours and watches you like a hawk!! LOL oh that makes sense Kelly I guess my urine has been coming back normal then..
The one hour glucose is not fasting and you drink 4 oz. (at least at my hospital) of sugary sweet drink, then go back one hour later to get blood drawn. There are parameters as to whether or not they have you come back to do the 3 hour fasting test, in which you drink 8 oz. of the drink and go back every hour on the hour for 3 draws.....Again, I'm sure all hospitals do it differently, but I'm sure they follow pretty much the same guidelines.
When you pee in a cup they are checking for protein dumping....which CAN be a sign of diabetes.....So they go from there if the urine test comes back out of normal range.
What does the glucose test consist of?? I thought my doctor just checked that everytime I went when I pee'd in the cup???
i would say orange is the best...although they are all gross.
i didnt eat that morning because everyone that i know who ate failed. my Dr. even had me fast from 12am the night before...if u must eat id say stay away from any sugar. Right after the test i did pig out though!
good luck!
