Glucose testing??? Personal Experiences with it

I everyone, Im currently a little over 24 weeks pregnant with my first and I have to go in April 1st to have the glucose testing done. My question is is it really as bad as what everyone is telling me. I have had severe nasea my whole pregnancy and really really bad gag reflexs, I cant stand throwing up :(. So Im really scared Im not gonna be able to handle the drink or its gonna make me sick. Just looking for some personal experiences good or bad. Thanks

DO NOT GET THE FRUIT PUNCH...*I* thought that stuff was for the dogs...heck i wouldn't have given it to a dog.  I've only had it one time, the rest of the time I have had the orange which really isn't bad,...it's like REALLY REALLY sweet semi thick orange kool aid or soda (some docs have it kinda carbonated) .  It's really not that bad.  One thing I would like to point uot....becuase the 1 hr glucose is not a fasting test, many women fail it and have to do the 3 hour.  I have failed it in 4 out of 5 pregnancies but have always passed my 3 hour.  So IF for some reason you do fail the 1 hr don't worry about it...take the 3 hour and see how that comes out.  Just remember to take a book or somethign else to do.

Thanks Ladies, Im actually going in tonight for a quick appoinment with my doctor  due to the excessive and constant naseua. I called last night and they said go ahead and come in cause the zofran should be working better than it is, so we shall see what she says tonight. Maybe if this naseua gets cleared up some the test will be a piece of cake lol.

I haven't had one in a few years and when I had my last one done it was the clear kind and i had no problem with it. The first time it was the nasty orange sugary (tasted like sugared up Gatorade but watered down weird I know) and I was so queasy with my first that I ended up throwing up instantly and had to do it 3 times lol!  I do recommend eating afterwords... It really isn't all that bad, just another necessary test to do when you are pregnant.

I LOVED the drink. I had t fast before the test so I was SOOO hungry when I went in. I actually drank it slowly and savoured it all. I like sweet drinks though. The worst part for me was the one hour wait. I dont have time and patience to wait LOL -  but while I was waiting I wanted to go and ask for another delicious orange drink. Its sooo not as bad as ppl say it is. Its like a sweet orange juice (It reminded me of the old orange drink that McDonalds used to have). DELICIOUS!

I got mine done some months ago. I drank it and threw up after 40 minutes BUT it was because im hemophobic and saw some lady getting her blood taken, so it had nothing to do with the yummy (in my opinion) orange juice. They dont usually tell you this but if you can contain it in for 30 minutes you are good to go. 30 minutes is enough for your body to suck in all the sugars.

Thanks, No im not actually throwing up anymore just extremly queasy alot, almost always on the verge of puking. I take zofran but it dont help much. My fiance will be going with me so thankfully I wont have to drive. I have to be ther by 2pm and drink the drink then leave for a hour and come back. Im just really nervous I dont wanna throw up in the doctors office lol I did enough of the the first four months. Even Had to have my gallbladder takin out in January cause I couldnt keep anything at all down anymore. thanks though maybe it wont be so bad after all.

I'm not saying to eat them before the test of course, just have some food in your car for after the test is done. You may not need it at all but better safe than sorry.

Are you throwing up now because of your nausea? With my glucose test the drinks pretty much have no flavor, and they didn't make me sick at all. It's a LONG time to go without food, and what happened to me was started feeling very light headed when they drew the blood for the test. I actually passed out. I regained conscientiousness and REALLY needed to get somthing to eat, I headed across the street to McDonalds (the closest thing there was) walking in, I was on the verge of passing out, and while ordering the lady was probably really freaked out because I could barley stand up!!! It was bad...

SO... my advice to you TAKE SOME FOOD!!! Take a package of peanut butter crackers or a sandwich or something and eat before you drive off. Make sure you feel okay to drive!! I'm lucky I didn't crash

Hi there, I had the 1hr GTT test last month. I was also told that the drink was just horrible and almost syrupy. But actually it wasn't that bad at all.
It's almost like one of those Orange Frizz drinks like Orange Crush. If you like them you will be fine. The moment I drank it the baby started kicking and moving so I guess he liked it too. :D
On a side note, I would avoid eating any thing very sweet the day before just because I have heard it can throw off the test results.

Good luck!
