Inducing

just curious .. isn't FULL term technically 40 weeks ? aren't you only sposed to be induced early if it's medically necessary ? I just don't understand how people who are at 30-37 weeks , already have their induction date BEFOREHAND , before 40 weeks. even tho they have healthy pregnancys. just doesnt make sense to me lol

I dont understand it either.  My best friend was induced at 37 weeks because her ob was going on vacation!  Wtf? How is that even ethical????

Term is considered to be 37 weeks, so anytime after that is safe for baby to come. Most drs will induce starting at 39 weeks. Just depends on the pregnancy. I went into labor with both previous pregnancies at 37 weeks. So this pregnancy I have a c section date shortly after I'm 37 weeks. (There's reasoning as in why... But that's not important.)

Lol...30 weeks seems way early, but doctors consider u full term at 37 weeks. I guess it jus depends on the baby n mom if there induced b4 then.

I dont get it either.......I was 9 days late when I was induced it was planned just a couple days earlier......but I think people are anxious and want to get the process over with and I dont know if the doctors make more money when it comes to inducing ....I know c-sections mean more $$ so ......idk i just think you should let it happen naturally when that baby is ready to come out he or she will.......unless of course your past your due date then i can see or for medical reasons......otherwise i dont agree with it myself

I agree, and why would you want to be induced? Natural onset labour is much much easier than induced labour, and seems to be less likely to end up with emergency c section. My first bub was 5 days over and my second was 12 over. They have to come out at some point, why push when they're clearly not ready??

totally agree :) I cant believe the amount of ladies that want to get induced before 40wk, yes technically once you have hit 37 wks baby can come, but that doesnt mean baby is ready, all that means is that baby has less likelyhood of having complications with their lungs etc, it doesnt mean that baby is ready! also considering that dates can be off by up to a week or two, if you get induced just because your 37 wks, bub could actually be only 36wk and end up by having breathing problems.... yes those last few weeks can be extremely uncomfortable, but thats when bub is putting on lots of fat to keep help their body tewmps once born, unless for medical reasons I dont think you should be induced until after 40 wks either :) still I'm not a doctor, just my view and from my experience  :)

A doctor going on vacation is not a good reason to induce labor. Just because 37 weeks is considered full term doesn't mean baby is ready. If baby was ready early (s)he would come early. Unless there's a genuine medical reason, inductions shouldn't happen until after 40 weeks.

My sister was induced early because her preferred doctor was going on vacation, and I think her choice was very selfish. I'm 37 weeks and want my baby to stay in me until he's ready to come out.

full term is technically still 40 wks, anything before 37 wks is considered pre-term so I think ladies are taking the 37 wk mark being full term as wrong, it just means babies lungs are more than likely to be matured enough not to have any problems when born. There are still plenty of babies born at 37 wks that have to go into scbu as they cant hold there body temperature etc....

40 weeks is 10 months.

no its not its only 10 months if you go by a lunar calendar which has 4 straight weeks in it, all months except feb have longer than 4 wks, so its not right, thats why pregnancy is dated in wks now, 40 wks is full term

37-41 weeks is full term. Before 37 is considered premature, after 41 is considered post-term. The only thing is it's not uncommon for them to have our dates off by a week or two. My doc might induce me at 39 weeks for medical reasons (I've had complications throughout), and I'm fine with that. If she wanted to induce me at 37 weeks I would fight her since if she was even a week off in her due date, my baby could end up in the NICU.

I got induced because my child was coming out basically and I've been having contractions since last night and same with my youngest daughter. Both at 37 weeks which is full term

Yea I also thought about how due dates  could be off by a week , so inducing that early could be worse for baby. & I've also heard about baby's lungs being fully developed at 37 weeks.. but that deff doesn't mean baby is ready! my uncles gf got induced on her due date, but it was a week before the original date they have her and her daughter didn't come til 2-3 days after being induced. & she said it was ALOT more painful.
I just don't understand it lol I understand for medical reasons, but cos your doctor is going on vacation?? lol I'd DEFF wanna wait til my baby is ready.

I agree as well to many womens getting induce for no reason. I know 37 is considered full term but if you dont have complications why induce if it was for me i would wait till 40weeks atlist. But there are some ladys who are having bad pregnancys and can berally walk or having pain ect i understand them.

I've had 10 and only one has come early, 3 on their due dates and 6 around 4-5 days after their due date, I get every problem imaginable with by hips/pubis symphis etc but I still manage to hang in there as I know those last few weeks are all important for bub :)

Yea, I want to make sure my son is fully developed and come when he's ready to come. I don't wanna be induced unless absolutely medically necessary before 40 weeks.
Can I refuse an induction if my doctor suggests one before then?

yes you can refuse, as long as your both healthy you can, also there are natural ways to help bring on labour once you've hit 40 wks, that can work really well :)

well that helps by softening the cervix, but if your pregnancy is normal, you can start taking raspberry leaf tablets from 36 wks onwards, everyday, once you've hit 40 wks you can try acupuncture or reflexology/pressure points on your feet, with them focusing on your uterus points, usually that can be enough to get contractions going, but would def reccomend the raspberry tablets as well, it wont make you go into labour but it tones and strengthens your uterus, so when you go into labour, your contractions work more efficently, therefoe it can shorten your labour :)

I've heard of some hospitals in the US not allowing elective inductions before 39 weeks. That's how the hosp I'm going to does it. Also, c-sections are at 39 weeks instead of 38 like they were just a couple years ago.

States are actually outlawing Drs inducing before 39 weeks unless its an emergency. I think the problem is that these days women get uncomfortable and want the pregnancy over so they tell their Dr to induce to get it over with. I myself have had two pregnancies go naturally by themselves and one was induced because he was two weeks late. I loved the two that went naturally because the moment when I get to tell my husband "its time" the feeling is so exciting. I think its good that the states are passing laws for induction to early for no good reason.

I don't think it's right , to induce bcos your tired of being pregnant. I mean, I know some women are extremely uncomfortable and are in pain.. but hey you knew what would happen! lol idkthats just my opinion.
& c-sections too , booked soo early ! idk I just don't get it. I know there's always a chance of something to be wrong .. but the isn't the chance lower if you wait the full 40 weeks

This app and my Dr say that 37 weeks it technically full term. Your 9 months at 36 weeks. So THAT I don't get BUT I trust my Dr he is one of the top five in North Texas. Now he's never delivered babes before 38 weeks for no reason either though.
