Preeclamsia vs. Gestational Hypertention

For those who have had Preeclamsia Could you please tell me your experiences such as
How high was your BP?
When in your pregnancy did you develop it?
How did they treat it?
Did you have all the symptoms? If not which ones did you have?
Did you always have swelling?

My story is I went into L & D yesterday, cause I was told to due to high BP. When I got there my BP was 169/88. They got my BP to go down and apparently I was dehydrated so I got some fluids too. I was told the rest of my pregnancy will be like this and pretty much to rest. Since it was not my doctor they didn't diagnose me with anything. They just told me to make sure I keep my doc apt tomorrow.  On a side note all through this pregnancy and my first pregnancy my BP stayed at 100/60.

Anyones experiences with either Preeclamsia or just gestational hypertention I'd love to hear. This is new for me as I didn't experience this with my first DD. A little scary.... I've never been on bedrest or anything.... I'm kinda at a loss here.

I should also mention I've been having some other symptoms of preeclamsia, but i dont know if they are related to that or something else. We will have to see tomorrow.

at 210 /106 is unheard of!!! i am going to nursing school and no doctor would ever let it get that high and if they did u need to sue!  you should have been dead in all honesty i have never ever heard of a bp that high ..   they shouldnt have even bothered doing the kidney function test because with a bp that high  your life was at risk.. you couldn't have had very good doctors cus thats just ridiculous.. honestly that negligent of the doctor .. i would be switching my ob ..

I also had pre eclampsia. I had to deliver at 36 weeks. The highest my BP got was about 160/100. I started having the symptoms at around 32 weeks. My Dr put me on bed rest, BP meds, and I had to elevate my feet. I had really bad pitting edema everywhere! If you would barely touch my arm, it would leave an indent for like 10 mins! It was horrible! I was put in the hospital 3 times before they actually delivered me. When they did take her, I was spilling huge amounts of protein into my urine and my BP was going higher and higher. They put me on Magnesium Sulfate for 3 days before the day they took her. Due to the Mag Sulfate, my LO couldn't breathe when she was born, so she had to go to the NICU. But, she is perfectly healthy now! Ever since my pregnancy, my blood pressure hasn't went down. I have been on meds since I was 32 weeks pregnant!

lruder = 210/106????   Glad you are still with us with those numbers, yikes!

I had pregnancy-induced hypertension.  BP was elevated at week 28 and 30 and I was instructed to work part time.  At the 34th week, it was still considered high (it was reasonable at week 32) and I had to come in twice a week for a non-stress test and ultrasound to make sure amniotic fluid was ok. - the highest it got was ~158/92.  No swelling, sudden weight gain or protein in my urine which are some of the markers for pre-eclampsia though.  I was induced at 39 weeks and had a successful vaginal delivery 18 h later.  Interestingly enough, my blood pressure was LOW during the final stages of labor and I kept setting off the alarms!

I developed Preeclamsia when I was pregnant with my daughter, at around 35 weeks. I felt horrible! No energy, I was SO swollen, my legs and ankles were twice the size as normal, and my blood pressure was higher than normal for me (around 146-90). The swelling would improve if I did nothing, as I was instructed. Even if I was on my feet for 10 minutes they would swell right back up though. They put me on bed rest, a hypertension pill, advised me to not get dehydrated. In the mean time, I was given shots to develop my daughters lungs, as they knew I would have to deliver early. I had to go in for urine, blood tests, and baby monitoring at the hospital 3 times a week. The up side was I got to listen to her heartbeat for an hour 3 times a week. Finally, when my kidney tests came back abnormal, and my blood pressure was 210/106, I was induced. I was only 36 weeks, but they were afraid if I did not deliver my kidneys would shut down or I would stroke out.

I hope this helps, mine was what they termed "a severe case," hope all goes well for you

hey, well i just had my lil guy 5 weeks ago and had to have an emergency c-section due to having A-tytpical preclampsia.

i was the same as you, great blood pressure til the last 3 weeks of my pregnancy.  my blood pressure was always like 110/70.  then it went aboce 130 which my doctor got a little worried about because i was so swollen.  my legs and feet swelled up to a big size and would not go down even after a good nights sleep with elavating.

so when my blood pressure rose a little, they took blood work and my kidney function was slightly elavated which they said they were going to watch.  then the nxt week my BP was still a little increased and they re-took my blood levels and my kidney function was worse.  so they diagnosed me with A-typical preclampsia cause the swelling, elavated BP and the kidney problems.

like i said this was the last 2-3 weeks of my pregnancy.  they took him that night because my kidneys were not working right.
