high blood pressure

Does anyone take medication for high blood pressure and is pregnant?  If so, could you please tell me what you take and how successful it is?

My dr. just prescribed me an ACE inhibitor that has a big ole warning about death to fetus.  I am not pregnant, but my husband and I have been trying.  We put our trying on hold for a few months, but would like to resume soon and we aren't super careful with protection now... leave it to God.

I am on Aldomet right now, and it works good. It is the only approved medication for high blood pressure during pregnancy, I am almost 21 weeks. Before I became pregnant, my regular doctor did not want to put me on it, because it has to be taken twice a day. So I was on Toprol XL then. She said as soon as I got a positive test, to stop taking it and get in to see her immediatly.

Personally, I think it had a lot to do with our trouble conceiving. But again, that is just my opinion, and I could be way off base. We tried for over a year before I got pregnant, and even though I switched to Aldomet immediatly, I had a miscarraige at 7 weeks. After the m/c, I stayed on the Aldomet, and conceived again after only one cycle. So I definitely think it is worth talking to your doctor about the risks involved, good luck to you!  :)

Thank you tremendously! I think the problem was that this was not my normal primary since mine was on vacation.  I will tell him about our want for a child and ask to change it.  Thank you for the info on what you take.  I have only been on the ACE for a few days, my BP has been around 155/95 for the last year.

Hi!  I used to take and ACE for high blood pressure but once my husband and I started ttc, my doctor immediately switched me to Labetelol (a beta blocker) that works great.  ACE's are not safe for pregnant women (they block chemicals that the growing fetus needs to develop!) or those of us trying to become pregnant so you might want to talk to your Doc about switching.  My blood pressure on the Labetelol is like 120s/75-80 and I feel great.  Hope this helps!!
