I agree you should take the medicine. I had no symptoms of a uti, but my doc had called yesterday, and called in the antibiotics. She said even though I had no symptoms that my bacteria levels were too high for comfort and I needed to get is filled asap.
yeah..i guess its worse for the baby to not take it. I just was afraid of having a m/c.. I wont even take tylenol! lol
I HATED taking that medication. I HATED it. It made me so tired and so sick to my stomach, so I just took it at night with my prenatal to sleep off the effects. As for not taking it...I really would. I didn't have any symptoms of even having a UTI and I had one, That was the first time I've ever had one without having any symptoms and it scared me. I really suggest taking the medication or at least asking your doctor for a different script.
thanks you guys! im just going to go fill it!
babyhardiman- they actually didnt give me anything for the virus, or the upper resp infection! only the uti.. i was a little surprised considering how bad my symptoms were..plus i had a fever.
monday..I will finally be in my 12 week! so, hopefully i can stop worrying as much:-)
i had my first uti the second week of december. i told my doctor i was ttc and that is what she gave me. i conceived while i was on it! of course, that was very early pregnancy, but i am now about to enter my 10th week. doc assured me that it was safe to take while pregnant or ttc. you are fine! if i remember correctly, you are very soon to be out of first trimester??? congrats!
I guess that is why they always ask "does it burn when you pee" at my doctors office. =)
I hope you are feeling better. Homemade chicken soup cures all, why don't you go and make you a BIG pot, and relax.
What did they give you for the respritory infection?
I was sick for a week straight so i went to the er.. they said i had a virus, upper resp infection, and a uti :-(
the uti just feels really uncomfortable, burns when u go to the bathroom, all together is sucks!
What does a UTI feel like anyway?
I know what you mean! I have had two SEVERE colds in a row that I suffered through. I am almost in my third trimester. My concerns were not miscarriage, but more of what my baby will feel from taking the medication that makes mommy drowsy and makes mommy feel loopy, I didn't want my baby to feel that way.
You are still in your first trimester, and that is a crucial time for development of your baby. I can understand what you are feeling. However, a UTI can cause a miscarriage, like JoyRenee said it can spread to your kidneys. I would recommend that you fill the prescription and take the meds.
Do you have a cold? Or are you just feeling the typical pregnancy woosies?
I was in the hospital b/c i have been really sick..when they did a urine test, it came back that i have a uti.. he gave me macrobid. I dont have any symptoms. Im just afraid to take it bc..well... im afraid to really take anything during this pregnancy.. im soooo afraid of having a mc. but then i heard if you have a uti and dont take the meds it could cause a mc.

What are you asking? If the Medication will cause a miscarriage or an untreated UTI?
Personally, I would be far more concerned about treating the UTI. If your doc prescribed the medication I would take it, and not think twice. UTI's are dangerous in pregnancy.
I took macrobid at 8 weeks and I am now 22w5d. They say if you drink lots and lots and lots of water and potty as soon as you feel you need to and eat a yogurt a day then it can clear up on it's own.
not necessaril;y if any meds are a categoru d then they can cause a miscarry only a maternal fetal ob/gyn would know about certain meds that are considered high risk becuase they specialize i was told that i could have children but i have hyperthryoidism and when its all said and done i can't because if i take my meds which are a class d i will have a miscarriage if i dont take my meds then my body will produce even more of the already high levels of the thyroid hormone and i will miscarry so dont just believ what a reugklaur ob has to say and i have to see my endocrinoloigsit evern before i see my maternal fetal ob/gyn. sorry just venting and if you feel uncomfortable ask more question ask the doctor to break out his PDR BOOK OR A MEDICAL BOOK TO LLOK UP THEY MEDS AND CONTRADICTIONS AND CLASSIFICATION DONT JUSDT BELEIVE WHAT DOCTORS TELL US THAT THE PROBLEM NOW A DAYS WE TAKE WHAT THEY HAVE TO SEE AS WRITTEN AS A LAW AND THATS NOT ALWAYS GOOD. BUT SOME DOCTORS ARE VERY GOOD AND WILL ALSWAYS BREAK OUT THEIR PDR RIGHT IN FRON OFF YOU. WELL SORRY LADIES SOME OF YOU GUYS KNOW ME FROM MY PREVIOUS POST AND SOME DONT.
Hi i found this hope it helps, but as joyrene said you must finish the script.the symptoms may have disappeared but can flare up any time,if the course isnt completed..
Category B
Most antibiotics are Category B, which means that there is no known association with birth defects or other pregnancy-related complication and the drug is probably safe. These include:
Amoxicillin
Ampicillin
Augmentin (amoxicillin-clavulanate)
Dicloxicillin
........Macrobid (nitrofurantoin)........
Flagyl (metronidazole) (although there is some controversy about taking it by mouth in the first trimester)
i took it while pregnant with my son and was totally freaked out because it clearly said do not take if pregnant. However, my doctor and the pharmasist convinced me to go ahead a take it. Everything was fine and my son is as healthy as can be.
I have to agree with JoyRenee, you really should go get your prescrip filled and take it until its gone... ive had peoblems in the past with uti (granted not while preg) i would stop taking the med when i felt better then later end up with a worse infection. the doc said its importantn to tall all the presc until its gone and then id do a fallow up app just to make sure
best of luck
I think you misunderstood what you read. An "untreated" UTI can spread to your kidneys and cause you to miscarry. I think you should fill the prescrip, take the entire prescrip because even if you don't feel symptoms, your doc found something there. Doctors also advise that you take an entire prescription even when you feel better or no longer have symptoms.
macrobid is totally safe to take..... Woman commonly get UTI's while pregnant... :-)
thank you! u made me feel much better about it!
If my symptoms start up again..i will get it filled:-)
Lots of women gets UTI when pregnant and prob. gets the same stuff......
i know but now..im not having the symptoms. im just afraid bc i never got it filled.. i could mc. is that really true?
Well. a dr. knows best, he wouldnt give you something if it could hurt the baby.....
