They can go a week without going. Not sure how long it's been.

I second the massage and the call to your pediatrician. I am a PEDs nurse and where I am we say no water or juice that young, you can really do a lot more harm than good... You can also lubricate a rectal thermometer and check a rectal temp (the temp doesn't matter really its the action that can help stimulate the sphincter to help pass a bm) .... Most importantly though is making sure baby is really constipated. Just because its been a few days doesn't mean constipation. The stools have to be both infrequent and very hard and difficult to pass to constitute constipation. If the stools are soft and just not happenening daily that's not constipation.

hopefully those instructions help and are clear.  but even if they aren't just rub their belly in a clockwise direction. your essentially massaging the babies large intestine with this move but if you just rub clockwise you should have some positive effects to. your just encouraging the bowel movement in the right direction.  you can Google infant massage but i just did and a few of the links i found were massage counter clockwise and i didn't want to lead you there without any information. so clockwise! and still maybe check some videos on youtube just to get a sense of depth.... and fair warning if it is successful and its been awhile things could get messy. do the massage on your least favour receiving blank with a diaper on in a warm room without anything else on the baby. no point in extra laundry now. good luck!

infant massage.  the i love you technique has worked for me several times. im a ftm but im a massage therapist and have used it on alo t of my friends babies with great success. you simply want to rub/massage the babies tummy in a clock wise direction. start at the babies right hip bone and massage up towards there right rib repeat that stroke gentle but firm 3-5x thats the "i" .next from the same starting point move from the right hip to right rib then across the bottom of the rib cage towards the left side of the edge if the ribs again gentle but firm 3-5x with this stroke you a drawing the "L" for love in this technique.  and lastly the"U" same starting position and follow the line of the L that you just did but finish it to make the "U" by ending the stroke by coming down from left rib down to the left hip. repeat that 3-5x

If exclusively breast fed - babies can go many days without a bowel movement and it's perfectly normal. If formula fed contact Dr and see what he recommends.

Call their pediatrician.  They like to be updated in particular with newborns. Could be an intolerance to formula if he/she is formula fed. Also they'll want to make sure there's no blockage.
