Have you considered having a doula? They are awesome for helping you cope with labor.
There's also a 35 plus board, since you're technically considered high risk at that age you might want to ask in there as well.
You really can't know what to expect with your first, every pregnancy is different, yes there will be some sort of pain, some worse than others but you can prepare for it. I wasn't that was the scary thing. If you are worried ask your doctor for info for childbirthing classes and take as many as possible. Get in a support group or have supportive people around you. You can do it!
That's tough cause its different for each person. For me I dont get back pain and I usually dont get contractions before labor is in full swing. Some people have contractions days before baby comes. I usually get horrendous pains like period cramps but enough to make you puke and I get them quick and baby shows up quick lol.
