Group B Strep it's a bacteria of some sort they test all women around 36 weeks I think. I believe you carry it in your stomach, vaginal area and colon
Forgive me but what is GBS?
I was positive but didn't get the antibiotics (don't agree with preventative antibiotics as I think they set bub up with a bad gut and immune system from day 1, but that was purely my personal choice). As I was at home, Midwife gave me protocol for checking on bub and showed me how to check breathing rate and heart rate every 4 hours (and to look out for fever). She said it was unlikely anything would happen, and bub would probably get monitored more often at home than she would at hospital anyway, and that being near me, I would probably pick up changes quicker than nurses who dropped in every so often and changed shifts etc... I'm going to use this monitoring for my future babies regardless of GBS, as I think it's just a really helpful way to pick up anything going wrong... I think they should teach every mother this!
Thank you both.. I was reading about this and everything I read sounds so horrible but the doctor keeps saying it's nothing to worry about...
I was gbs positive with my second, I had a really fast labor, 2 hrs 48 min, and was unable to get the required amount of antibiotics. At 5 weeks old my daughter was in the hospital with late onset gbs symptoms but she's a happy 7 month old now :)... definitely try to make it to the hospital to receive your antibiotics but look up the symptoms for early and late onset gbs in babies so you know if something's wrong...
I was positive with my first. It's not a big deal as long as you get to the hospital at the right time. I just had IV antibiotics during labour and everything was fine.
