My mom told me the same. Hands above your head is untrue per my doctor; nothing you can do to hurt the baby when putting your hands above your head. Reaching for things you may lose balance a little due to unbalanced weight in different parts of our bodies (etc) and you should have someone help if possible. Climbing on top of something to reach for things just shouldn't be done b/c of you may definitely lose your balance and hurt you and the baby.

This is 100% folklore without any medical or scientific evidence to support that it is dangerous - in fact, it is perfectly safe.

We're closing this thread as our age-group forums are intended for medical questions, and this is a myth that one either believes or doesn't.  However, due to recent myth-related threads that have resulted in other pregnant women unnecessarily stressing and fearing for their health, it's not in the best interest of our community members to continue conversations about a "risk" that isn't a risk at all.

I know that you are not  to reach for anything above or over your head I had not heard of specifically just your hand over your head.
