I am 40+1 and not currently working. I found out today that my job canceled my insurance on the 1st of December. My last pay period ended on the 29th of November and they did deduct money for my insurance but then canceled my policy. If i havent delivered by monday i am suppose to have an ultrasound done but i dont know if i have tobpay up front?!? Im beyond stressed out! Has anyone had this happen?

Apply for pregnancy medicaid right now!!!! Anything you get done during the time they process it should be covered!

With the elderly Medicaid is back dated. So goes by the date that they turn in Thier application. Ask a social worker at DCF and they will help you!

Not sure what state your in but in Michigan Medicaid applications for pregnant women should be processed within 15 days of application.  Also, the applications in Michigan are processed at the federal level before it's even assigned to a worker. Many times if it's no problems with eligibility it's approved immediately.  I would check your states policies and definitely apply online ASAP.

The state ins in michigan goes back 90 days too. So don't freak out yet. Plus you always have the cobra option

You should have health coverage for 30 days past your termination date. Call hr and threaten to sue. You paid for insurance and they have stolen money from you. Best of luck. Research it and get valid arguing points that would force them to reinstate it

You're welcome!! I can't believe the way that they did you...my goodness. So, much for employer loyalty and valuing staff...it seems like the days of valuing employees died two-three decades ago. Smh...:-(

Thank you so much. That makes me feel a lot better. I worked at this place for 2 1/2 years and this is how they treat me !!

Sorry to hear that this has happpened to you :-( . Fortunately,  you will not have to pay up front and upon delivery the hospital could assist you with medical expense help. Your former employer is shady...seriouly....they took insurance money out for two days? Wow. Even though the job did cancel your insurance on the first,  I'd call the insurance company too because the policy may still be effective for one more pay period. Also, if you are in the U.S. and since you are pregnant the government will actually provide you with emergency health insurance via medicaid. From what a friend of mines explained to me, she went online and completed an app and then went into the office, so, even though its saturday...I would complete an app online and head to a local office ASAP where they will expedite and approve your request that day but it is pertinent that in order to get approved that day you must explain that you are pregnant, how far along and that there is an obvious urgency.

I wish you the best and I hope that all will work out, so, hang in there and try not to stress too much. Congrats on a healthy baby and speedy easy delivery in advance.

I have not had that happen, but you may check work your doctor because they often bill for the whole pregnancy at once.  So for me, the total bill was $3000 with a copay of $150, so they had me pay the $150 over time.  If not, you should be eligible for medicaid that would cover your hospital stay and the baby's care.  I know that probably isn't anyone's first choice, but you need to do whatever you can to help make sure you don't get into a financial mess over this.
