My friend had her son at 24w and he passed on, her next was born at 25w and is now a healthy happy 4yr old. My other friend had her daughter at 30w and she was fine! With the advances in medicine and the nicu babies are being born super early and living... earliest known to be born and survive I think was 20w? Google it. However the longer the baby cooks for the better the chances. That being said I have had 4 friends who have lost theirs from going over 40w. So it's hit and miss! Lungs take a while to develop but normally anything above 32w has a 90% chance of survival.

I have a cousin who can not carry a child past 5 months. All four of her sons were born 2lbs or less. And they all are alive and well....so the 8th month myth is irrelevant in my eyes.

I honestly think it depends on the circumstances. The survival rate is ok at 25 weeks and only gets better each week. I have one friend who had her baby at 28 weeks that little girl is now a happy healthy 5 year old. On the other hand my mum had her first at 39 weeks and my sister passed away shortly after birth due to too much stress during the birth. I know a lot of places don't like multiples to go past 35 weeks because more complications can arise, I've also spoken to mothers of multiples whose Drs have pushed them to get as far through the pregnancy as possible. It all depends on the reason for the early delivery, some are easier to diagnose, treat and help along than others. Ultimately no matter how much the Drs and nurses even the parents want and pray for the baby, it's out of their hands.

@seh4531,miracles do take place like the above lady has mentioned but still I have some belief in that 8th month babies rarely survive because I had lost my twin sons at 31st week.u know pregnant women here are not allowed by the elders to go out of house in 8th month unless n untill incase of emergency as someone superstitious might hurt pregnant women.its funny but true

@wishes2891 dear actually I have lost my twin babies at 31st week, both were monoamniotic n monochrionic and they couldn't survive.I suffered a lot last year so that's y worried this time.its a common old myth that babies born in 7th month survive but not in the 8th month.anyways if God's will is to give life to someone then no one can take away.miracles do take place

One of my good friends had her son at 31 weeks. He was out of the hospital within 3 weeks.
Another friend had twins at 26 weeks. One of them survived and is now 2

Yeah my cousin was definitely a miracle baby. His parents orginal plan was to abort him but his dad wouldn't pay his share. Then he decided to he would do the job himself. He managed to beat him out of his mom but not to kill him. To look at him today you would never even guess he had such a traumatic entry into life or that he was a preemie.

Its not ideal to have a baby before 37wks or even before 40wks but if they have good medical care and are strong enough to fight they can survive.

My husband was born at only 28 weeks and this was 28 years ago now....he is a big, tall and very healthy man now, even as a child he almost never had colds or anything, so I think with advances in medicine since then being 31 to 34 weeks along should be perfectly fine!! Good luck!!!  :-)

Thanks to the advances in the medical world, they now say a baby is viable at 24 weeks with a lot of medical interventions. The baby is going to be in the NICU for awhile and is at risk for some health problem but over time many of these babies are very healthy.

I've never heard that. My cousin was born at five months 31 yrs ago and he's perfectly healthy. I do believe the earlier they are born the more medical intervention they will probably need but at eight months I would say the survival rate is very good so long as there are no other underlying medical issues. They will probably need some time in a NICU of course.

Never heard it but if a 7 month old can survive im definitely sure an 8 month old has even greater chances of survival.
