Anyone still not picked a name and you are far along?

Inames  am currently 38+1, and my husband and I still haven't decided on a name.  We can't just keep calling him "Baby," but we are still so undecided.

Some back story...
Our first kid is named Christopher, but we call him Topher.  My husband's name is Christopher, but he goes by Chris.  He is the oldest in his family.
Our second kid is Jaclyn, but we call her Lyn.  She's named after my husband's sister, who goes by Jackie.  She is the second in the family.  I had two other names that I liked better, but I felt pressured to use that name by my mother in law.

Now that we are having another boy, we are being pressured into naming him Jonathan after my husband's brother, who is third in the family.  I don't mind the name, but I don't want to pick it by default.

I like names that are slightly longer and have the option of a nicknames or even multiple different nicknames.  (My name is Elisabeth and I go by Lisa, but I could go by Beth, Betsy, etc.)  My three favorite names are Tobias (nickname Toby), Alexander (Alex or Xander) and Anthony (Ant or Toby).  My husband likes Sebastian and Brayden, neither of which can be shortened easily.  He just added Justin, Spencer, and Joshua to the list as well.

Has anyone else had this much trouble picking a name?  Any feedback or suggestions?  I'm due in 13 days, and this is something that should not be stressing me out.

Thanks so much.  You all have some great ideas.  I can't wait to meet him and make a decision.  Good luck in your own name searches.  Keep me posted.

I wouldn't pick a name from his side. At least not for the third time in a row. You should have a major say so in that. I love the name Tobias. Good suggestion. Lol. I named my first daughter cause my husband wasn't really involved, now he regrets it and picked out the first name of baby #2, but we still havent found a middle name to suit the first name, I'm 35 +1. To me we're cutting it close. Lol good luck.

Btw-I like Sebastian. I've known 3, one went by Bastian, one by B, and one by Seba or Bast (depending on the parent-they couldn't agree on one nickname-lol)

Sometimes you have to let your lo tell you who they are, so a name doesn't s eem right until after birth. My friends waited almost a week after their son was born so they could get to know him first. In VT you have up to 6 months to change/file the birth certificate. They settled on Avan

Thanks everyone!  I don't get it either.  None of them seem to be planning on having kids anytime soon, and my brother in law doesn't want kids at all, so I guess that's why we are getting pressured to use his name.  Definitely leaning toward Alexander.  It goes well with our short last name.

I don't understand why you sister/brother in-laws wouldn't want to name their own kids after themselves someday?? That's strange to me lol but they are cute names...

My husband and I have it narrowed down to 3 names for our baby girl. I'm 36+4 but am being induced for medical reasons when I'm 38+6. We are going to wait to see her before we decide on a name :)

Sometimes I think people need to SEE the baby first. When we had our first child, we picked a name no one like (our daughter's name is Allegra Sophia)!! But. ..we knew it was right.  After she was born....everyone said "it just fits...she's an Allegra!" Now everyone loves it and couldn't imagine her having any other name. Pick your top two contenders and just wait...you'll have time at the hospital before they bring you paperwork. With my first, the social security lady took a whole day to get to me!!

Your baby... your choice... I love Alexander going by Xander though! :-) but it may the case where you need to see him before you KNOW which fits him best. Dont let people pressure you into a name you aren't in love with for your lil guy! Congrats and I think it is kinda cool to wait till you meet your baby to reveal the name!!!

I'm 36 + 2 and we haven't decided on a first name yet. We don't know the gender so have to have both girl and boy names options. We have middle names sorted but we will probably wait til the baby arrives before deciding on a final name. I think its up to you and your husband to decide on a name, don't be pressured by anyone!

I've got a friend who didn't name her son until he was three days old. Maybe you have to meet your baby first to know what his name is. Don't worry about it - it will work out. Don't let family pressure you into a name you don't love, either. It's between you and your husband and that little baby.
