Are kick counts mandatory?

I am 28 weeks, ftm. My OB gyn said that as long as my baby moves actively throughtout the day, kick counting isnt mandatory because that might stress me out (she is aware i am already stressed for few personal reasons). I trust her completely.

But still wanted to known if any momma did not take the counts and it was fine. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

I'm almost 29 weeks and my Dr hasn't said anything about doing them. She moves a lot and he always asks at my appts how much she moves. And I know her pattern of awake and moving.

Thank you mommas for replying!! I am feeling so releieved. My baby moves quite a lot. But kick counting would definitely stress me out! M already dealimg with my MIL...  :(

My doctor had me just mentally keep track of baby's pattern. I know when it's most active and when I'm ok with not feeling anything. If really worried I drink something cold and sweet. I am 36 weeks now and I only did the kick count for a few days and it drove me nuts.

Kick counts are designed for high risk pregnancies or if baby seems sluggish at one point as a guide. It's not something you need to worry about unless you don't notice baby moving etc

I don't count any kicks! I'm 35 weeks. I feel him move enough I feel like counting would stress me out too. When he's not so active I just figure he's sleeping.
