Baby shower gifts

Sooo ladies, I recently moved out of state and am pregnant with my 3rd baby. My daughter is 9 , my son is 2nd I'm 17 weeks prego with a girl. I have some main baby items left from my son..(crib, changing pad, etc) that are in great condition so I don't need things like that but I'm pregnant with a girl now so I obviously don't have anything girly and will need some items for her. Since none of my family live close to me, I won't be having a baby shower... Which is kinda depressing me... :( is it wrong to ask for money instead of gifts to be mailed? That way I can buy what I need and not have to worry about retuning stuff?

Ps. I don't want to waste time with a registry because nobody ever used it before with my other 2 children.

Instead of asking specifically for money ask for some gift cards to some favorite stores or stores close by. I also live out of town and that's what we did for my son's baby shower. Worked out great
