Birth control and breastfeeding

Hi mommies
Please help.Which birth control is best for a breastfeeding mom? I am scheduled to get the mirena, but have read   about many moms who say their milk supply dried up after having the mirena inserted.

I had the mirena for 19 months post partum. I nursed my daughter for 16 months with no issues of low supply due to it. I did cramp every time I nursed her and bled. My doctor said the hormones released while nursing causes uterine contractions so that could have been why that happened. I waited 3 months after my daughter stopped nursing to see if the cramping and bleeding stopped. It didn't, so I had it removed. The main reason I wanted it out was because I had extreme hair loss from it. The first 6 months after having it removed I looked like a ChiaPet from all the new hair growth. I don't recommend the mirena to anyone. The paragard is the same concept, but hormone free. If an IUD is what you want, talk to your doctor about the paragard.

I have heard horrible things about mirena and paraguard and I got pregnant with my first son on the pill so I decided to try nexplanon and it was great I didn't notice any dip in my supply and I didnt have a period for the longest time! You should look into it

I nursed my son for two years with mirena, no issues... no remembering necessary!

Yeah the pill not so much. If you are able to take at the same exact time every single day without fail then it will work. Otherwise you will end up with a surprise baby like me. I was on the no estrogen pill and of course either forgot or took at different times. Luckily after this baby my husband is going for vasectomy.  Yay. :-)

After both pregnancies I breastfed and used the minipill. The more youth breastfed the more it works. I used it for 4 to 5 years in between kids and never had an issue in my 9 years using it. When I wanted to get preg again I just simply stopped using it and within a couple of months I was preggers again :)

Last time we just used condoms until I could go back on the pill. The low dose pill was highly not recommended for me. This time I can't go on the pill again because of the pregnancy complications I've had and the Mirena is the only one my dr will recommend. Would love to hear any feedback on Mirena.

I Did research on all and with the side affects of all I could say the pill is your best bet. But if your anything like me you'll forget to take them
