Just carious what's a paci?
Definitely agree with baby2014!!! My first son had a paci and only breastfed for a month or so and wouldn't take it anymore. My second son I told them NO paci and that I wanted to breastfeed and no sooner than I said that did he come back to my room from a bath with a stinkin paci!!! He didn't breastfeed long either. The hospital had given him bottles!! I was SO UPSET. The next baby I have, he will not be leaving the room unless I'm walking with him or hubby is with him. I am so serious about it too! lol
I don't know what type of insurance you have but I have united health care and I called them about breast pump and they are going to pay for it. They send it in the mail.. I would call them and see if its covered
Advice I would not let the nurses or doctors give the baby a bottle or paci. I would wait until your baby is 4 weeks old to ensure that your baby will not get nipple confusion. It happened to my little guy and it took 3 months for him to latch on again.
Lastly, make sure you have a lactation consultant see you as soon as possible. She will help you latch baby and she will give better and more accurate advice than a nurse. Remember nurses aren't really trained for breastfeeding.
Find out if your hospital supplies them in the room. I asked them for theirs. I wish I could afford a pump like that it was awesome! It's OK to go ahead and start pumping but you need to feed the baby first. And get some syringes to collect the collustrum and feed whatever you pump to baby right away.
No, your baby will feed on the colostrum. Its a super concentrated form of milk your breasts produce before your milk. In late pregnancy you may be able to actually squeeze a little out. The baby will only eat ...like...a teaspoon of that at a time. But its exactly what the baby needs until your milk comes in. Its different for everyone but usually its a few days.
I brought mine so they can show me how to use it. But I believe that is optional
So does the hospital just bottle feed until your milk comes in?
I would ask your OB, they should know your hospital policy. My first baby, it took a few days for the milk to come in. With my second, my milk was in within hours of delivery.
Your milk likely won't be in until the day you leave. Takes a few days. Until then the baby feeds on colostrum. So I wouldn't bring a pump
