Breast pump coverage...

So I've read on here that a lot of insurance companies cover breast pumps now. So long story short I have Medicaid bc I am considered part time at my job so insurance isn't offered, and I called today to see if one would be covered because a good one is so expensive and they told me it's covered if you're under 21! I'm 25! That is ridiculous! Why in the world would they have an age restriction on getting a breast pump! At least I have several weeks to save up for one as I'm only 25 weeks. Glad I checked early.

I'm planning on calling back closer to my due date. I don't know is Missouri's guidelines are different but I thought Medicaid would be pretty streamline about there coverage from state to state, and who knows the woman I spoke to on the phone could have been wrong or misread. Yes, tons of milk! The first few weeks for me I'm super engorged, not sure why but the only thing that helped make it barable was having the pump last time.

Wow that's a lot of milk. You got any tips? And I suggest you call back and see if you get a different answer.  I've read a few different stories of people talking to about 3 different reps before their problems were solved. Good luck!

I have WIC my problem is that I can't wait 4 weeks for them to rent me a breast pump, with my last 2 I had so much milk in the first 3-4 weeks I had 6 months worth saved in my freezer to use from that period alone. If I can't get it figured out I'll just have to buy one. Last time I borrowed a family members but that's not an option this time.

I have a friend that got one from WIC. You have to wait until you've exclusively breastfed for 4 weeks and then you qualify. And if you have medicaid then you should automatically qualify for WIC.

I have medicad too and i am 24.  my office in ny said its covered. There are rules. If ur a stay at home mom it will be a manual one. If u work pf or ft it will cover an electric single or double depending on how much u work. And wic also helps provide them. U can also call ur local hospital to see who else may help in ur area. We have birthright where Im at which is a charity and they also help provide them.

I'm only 25 weeks but I'm trying to plan ahead. I think I'm going to try to appeal that or something. I don't understand how they can get away with an age restriction for breast pump coverage. It makes no sense. I know they are trying to really promote breastfeeding but a lot of younger moms aren't comfortable with it so they don't do it.

I would call back and talk to someone else! I had to get a prescription for one and it covered 85%. But I also had to go through 2-3 people to find out about coverage on it. Good luck!

Yeah that's really dumb. You can get electric manual pumps for fairly cheap though. You just have to use a button to do the suction yourself instead of it doing it for you. Its not so bad. I had one with my first baby. The insurance i have with this baby covers pumps without an age restriction but you have to let them choose the pump. You don't get any say in brand or model. I won't be getting one though. I produced tons of milk with my first baby but barely any with my last two so I'm not going to make myself feel bad like I'm starving my baby and just starting this one on formula from the get go.

I've never heard of an age rule...that's stupid! Are you on wic at all? If you work over 25 hours a week in my state they provide you with one.
