"Pump and dump" is a myth that does nothing to speed up the metabolism of alcohol in your system. Test strips are worthless garbage that shouldn't be trusted to tell you anything worthwhile. If you're too drunk to drive you're too drunk to nurse - but you can safely have a drink and nurse your baby. The amount of alcohol that actually crosses the barrier into breastmilk is extremely minimal. Yes, it's important to remember moderation. But you can have a beer or two after nursing your little one and putting them down for the night - and by the time baby is hungry again you're most likely going to be fine.
My friend just had a baby and she is very small, she can manage three beers before her milk tests positive. She said spirits hit much much faster and take way longer to leave her system. I definitely plan on needing the test strips in my life, but if youre looking for a real night out pre pump enough for the baby for a few feedings and pump and dump until you test clear.
If you pump you will be able to provide her with breast milk even while she is at the sitters.
I'm going to try breastfeeding as long as possible but I'm in my last semester of nursing school and really would like to finish this year. I hope I can breast feed her while I'm home and formula while she is at the sitters
Oh that is great. I didn't know you could buy test strips!
I can't wait for a glass of wine and a cold beer during football season go cowboys :) and a margarita on the rocks extra lime no salt
I heard you should not start pumping and dumping until the baby is at least 3 months after that the baby sleeps for longer periods of time giving your body plenty of time to flush the alcohol from your system
You can buy strips from Walmart that test your breast milk. And just pump and dump the until its good. I am so ready for a frozen margaritas
On average, it can take about 2-3 hrs for your body to get rid of 1 serving of beer/wine. It can take up to 13 hrs to get rid of stronger alcohol from your body. There's also OTC tests to check the levels of alcohol in your milk :)
