Can my medication cause a false positive hpt?

I think I posted my question in the wrong forum because I'm 28 and I posted it in the 18-24 forum so I'm going to ask here just in case.

I'm currently on Promethazine for nausea due to my crohns disease. Im always overly paranoid right before my period about being pregnant so most months i take an hpt to calm my mind. This month I got two positive tests. Im confused because in all honesty my chances of being pregnant are slim. Barely had sex and am on the nuva ring. I was due for my period yesterday (April 3rd) and havent gotten it but I have no symptoms of pregnancy whatsoever. No change in breast size or tenderness. Ive had nausea but thats normal for me. I've been tired but its normally only after I take my promethazine since it is sometimes used as a sedative. What are the odds that my medication is messing with my test? I tried to get in to see my doctor today but she had no appointments available until next week. I'm in generally good health aside from the crohns. I am a smoker but I highly doubt that has anything to do with the tests. Before I took the hpt I had put in a light tampon at work just in case I got my period while working. When I removed it i had a light, pinkish hue on it. Thats normally how my periods start out..either a day or 2 before it i get very very light spotting and then i get my period. Im so confused.

My dr wants to do the blood test because she told me promethazine is known to cause false positives. I really hope it is because I am not trying to be pregnant, which is why ive been on birth control for years. Ive heard stories of women getting pregnant on birth control which terrifies me. Im hoping my blood test on monday comes up negative. I read a lot about promethazine and it causing false positives..i was just wondering if anyone else had experienced false positives from medication. Ive just had constant panic attacks all day and night so far. Cant eat, cant sleep. Monday wont come soon enough.

Id get a blood test done. But the likelihood of two false positives is VERY unlikely.
I'd say your pregnant.  But get into see your doctor to find out for sure
Best of luck!

I've honestly never heard of Promethazine causing a false positive.. in fact, false positives are rare & you got 2? I'd go get bloodwork done asap..

I'm currently in Promethazine for nausea (11 weeks) and I took it a lot when I was younger, I have Ulcerative Colitis.. which is another colon disease.. I don't see anything about it affecting pregnancy tests anywhere.. I wish you good luck though!! ((:
