Could it be labor or not...!!!

Hey ladies...I'm 40 weeks and 3 days pregnant...and I'm also a Ftm...I've been having very painful contractions (at least I think they are contractions) since last night...they are 5 - 6 mins apart...my water isn't leaking...or broke.......and I called labor and delivery and the nurse basically blew me off because I didn't "sound" like I was in labor....but I was home alone and I had to get myself together to speak clearly...but once the contractions start I have to stop what I'm doing (walking...talking...etc...) to focus on breathing...but my question is could I be in labor...and should i call my dr....??!!!...because I know I suppose to get induced in a few days which I really don't want...so I would be sooo happy if I am in labor...thanx in advance...!!!!

It sounds like you are in labor but only the first stage which can last for a while and probably the reason the nurses blew you off. Its annoying i was 8 cm dilated before i went in with my first cause they kept saying it wasn't time. At the same time it would have been pointless to go any earlier.
