I also have a 6 year old female pit and shes never had a litter. Before I got pregnant she would sometimes baby her toys and start lactating or nurse her stuffed animals. This I think is very funny and very cute it's also sad because the poor girl has to had babies of her own. But recently she has started this again and every time I look it up it says something about a suto pregnancy. She was in heat more than a month ago and this usually happens right afterwards. The only difference now is the timing and the fact that she's being extra careful and extra loving towards her stuffed animals.  She's also very gently with me now and won't jump up on me. So I'm sure she's Fallin into my cycle and believes she has babies. My sweet girl is going to be such a lover when our little one is born. Has anyone else dog done this?

Omg my boxer did this with our first baby! It was bad, he even tour up packs of diapers out of the baby's room!!! We started bringing the baby stuff to him and letting him smell and see what they all were about. Just pretty much showing him it was new and going to be OK. Kind of like a child lol.  When I went into labor and finally delivered my hubby took the baby blanket and hat from hospital and brought it home to Boo(our dog) let him get use to our new sons scent. Lol when we got home with our lil man Boo was all about him. He was smelling everything liking him and bringing him his toys even.! So in my situation it was better once we had our baby. Now Boo and lil man are best buds and boo is very protective over him . I am now expecting our 3 rd baby and Boo could t be happier lol he's an old dog now but he didn't go through his jealous stage.

He's just making sure ur not going to forget him with the new baby and all coming. Try giving him a Lil extra alone time with you laying on the couch/bed n talk to him like you would your kid about the baby. I do this to our dog and he sits n stares at my belly till I tell him lay down. He was also acting out at first too bit now that he knows and senses change with me he's been doing good

It sounds like he is nervous about something or maybe even has an infection.  I would try reinforcing his training (like a puppy) and trying reinsure him. Or maybe talk to you vet to rule out possible infection.

It could also be coming down to territory if he is doing it when you bring in new baby things.
