If it's cold put them in footie pjs.
What is it they say bumpers do again--- they roll into them and can suffocate? I don't think this happens frequently but I guess it is a risk.
Okay, here is something that happened to someone I know that is an FYI. This is devastating but I was glad to know it to be careful with my kids. This couple I know had a baby room with a closet in it. They still kept other things in it. The mom had gotten some clothes from the drycleaner that came in a plastic bag (you know the ones) --- She took the bag off and threw it away in the room. Well, when she took the bag off the clothes, a tiny piece of plastic ripped off and went into the bed. The baby got this in his throat and suffocated.
And THIS happened to my son. he was 8 months old and we were at my sisters. I was with him the ENTIRE time. He was on the floor between my legs in their family room or on my lap. She had little kids who drank juice pouches that come with straws wrapped in plastic. We went home and my baby was crying and crying. I thought he was over tired but he would not settle down. After 5 hours I called the doctor and she said go to the ER. He was crying and out of control. I did. While in the room, he was crying and his mouth was open and his head was back . . . when I looked in, I saw something shiny in the back of his throat. The ER doc about died as he walked I and he heard me say "there is something in the back of his throat"--- he started scrambling and sounded an alarm of some sort to the floor to get assistance immediately in the room and started pulling out tools form cabinets and I reached into my babies throat myself and somehow got my fingers on this small piece of plastic deep in the back of his throat and pulled it out. It could have killed him. And I was with my baby the entire time!!! And never saw that split second he found the plastic wrapper and put it in his mouth.
so, my husband do bedroom eye sweeps for any and all little plastic pieces or things like that to make sure nothing is able to float into bed, be able to be picked up, etc.
Whew, way way WAY off topic. But it somehow related to the bumper to me for some reason. Sorry . . . just make sure you have no plastic in your babies rooms!
Thank you, I bought a bed set today which contained bumpers and blankets but I think I am scared to use them. Will stick to Swaddling for the first few weeks and see how that goes.
This is probably dependent on the temperature of where your baby sleeps. My first son slept in a drafty room. Our house at the time was an older home and I always felt like his room was kind of chilly. he slept in a sleeper saddled tight in a thin blanket. Oh, and an undershirt under the sleeper.
I also had these zip up bag things. Have you seen those. They look like jammies at the top and the bottom is a bag. I liked these too.
My second baby slept in a very warm room, maybe the warmest of the whole house. And was born in spring. So, he slept in a light sleeper and was swaddled. (I always swaddle babies, they seem to like that snug feeling).
I guess they do say bumpers but I did always have bumpers. But I didn't put blankets in for a good while.
anyway, if they get little pink cheeks, they are probably too warm. good luck
Saddles are fine till they can roll over then only sleep sacks. No bumpers, blankets, or anything else interested crib.
