Dying your hair...

So ive heard its not good to dye your hair when you're pregnant. I understand the smell of some hair dye chemicals, but ive also heard that the color wont stay? Or it can somehow get into your system and harm the baby? Thoughts on this?

My doctor said it was fine as long as I don't touch the chemicals and in a well ventilated room.

I worked in an upscale hair salon for 8 years. In that time, 6 of us had 1-2 babies, 10 perfectly healthy babies total.  Any salon will keep the place well - ventilated and limit the amount of contact the color has on your skin, because it is a chemical. So if you do an "at home" be sure to keep that in mind. Another solution for that is the foil as opposed to all over color since the color touches the foil and not your skin. Hair during pregnancy can be tempermental since sometimes the texture of your hair can change and maybe the color wont last as long. Usually though coloring is fine (sometimes better) during pregnancy and the only time I ever really saw issues was with women who wanted perms- they just dont hold and end up being a waste of money. All that being said, I'm on #5 and overdue for my own color! So thanks for reminding me! Lol

I was told not to in the first 3 months as baby is developing and the chemicals can have a chance to be absorbed into the skin. Now im 15weeks I asked a pharmacist and they said its not recommended but its not a definite no no! I think if a salon did it ud have less chance of lots of it coming into contact with the skin and chemicals are less potent. Hair can change while pregnant so do a strand test to see how it turns out before u do the whole head. Im still unsure whether to go ahead, my roots are atrocious. Lol.

If you use the ammonia free dye in a we'll ventilated area, you should be fine. Or go to a salon. Make sure you wash it out really well. And there is a possibility that it won't turn out the way you want it. I'm 27 and have dyed my hair since I was 16 thanks to wonderful genetics that gave me grey hair really early. I want to dye mine because I have a few grey's coming through but don't want to chance it turning a wrong color or something.
