Early Labour

Hey ladies, for those of you who have given birth before, I'm wondering what early contractions can feel like. I'm currently 36+2 and for the past few days I've been getting this cramping feeling kind of like a menstrual cramp or gas pains. The cramps come and go but they aren't very close together. At first it would be like once or twice a day, but the past two days it seems they are gradually happening more often, like maybe once every hour or two. They aren't incredibly painful but they do bother me and some are more painful than others. I can also feel the cramps in my lower back. I have also been constipated so it could be from that but it's weird that it comes and goes. I'm just wondering if these sound like Braxton Hicks, or maybe early contractions ? Its hard to time them because they're still far apart.

Could be... But contractions felt different to me. What you're describing sounds like it's digestive but it could also be cervix related. Maybe your cervix is beginning to dilate?

Definitely does not sound like contractions.. They are More of a tightening then loosening in your lower abdomen. You can actually touch your stomach and feel it get hard and then soft. In true labor, contractions don't stop.. And it will hurt during it. So, relax... Don't worry.. You want the little one to stay in the oven and cook for as long as possible.

Are there any particular stool softeners that are safe during pregnancy ? I've been nervous to use any.

You should try a stool softener or glycerin supposatory and see if you get some relief. Constipation could possibly be the cause of your cramps.
