Empty gestational sac

Hi all! I was browsing through the internet and came across this site.

My LMP was January 29 and did 2 home pregnancy tests and 1 blood test and all came out positive. My doctor scheduled me for my first pre-natal visit which would include the vaginal US and a pap smear. I was told prior to the appointment that basing on my LMP I should be 7 weeks and 3 days by this time.

The first pre-natal visit was actually yesterday. And when I went in, I was so excited to finally see our baby. The midwife performed the pap smear first and then the US.  Turned out she couldn't find any fetal pole. She called another midwife to check again and she did find the gestational sac, which they said looked normal (otherwise it would've been flat if I had a miscarriage) but it was empty. Possibilities were given which they said it might be too early, that my days were prolly off. The other midwife even said some pregnancies develop just fine while others just stop developing and that made me worried. And that it could also be that it's developing outside the uterus. I'm not feeling any pain of some sort.. They sent me to get my hcg levels checked today and come back in 48 hrs so I'm hoping and praying everything is okay and that it was just too early to know.  My husband and I have been trying for 7 years so this pregnancy is really precious to us and I'm trying my best to stay positive and hopeful. Has anyone out there had the same case as mine? Advices are greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!

Thank you all for your encouraging comments! Yeah, the doctor who did the repeat ultrasound told me most likely it's 99% miscarriage and they want to give me pills or suck the blood or tissue out of me but I preferred to wait. I'm just now having a little bit of spotting when I got home from work and so I'm resting. I'll keep you all posted!! Good to know there's other women out there who go through the same thing but had good positive results. I'm praying for mine too!! Thanks everyone!

I had a similar issue when I was 19. I went to the er because I had faint spotting and wanted to make sure everything was ok (I'm a bit of a hypochondriac). All they saw was the sac. I had a couple ultrasounds weeks later & the sac got bigger but no baby. No signs of miscarriage, no pain, no nothing. At 8 weeks they said my pregnancy wasn't viable & gave me pills to miscarry. & that was it. I always had hope but it wasn't meant to be. Im now almost 11 weeks pregnant & heard my baby's heartbeat with a doppler that I bought (doctors dnt recommend it but I couldn't help myself) & it is amazing. Hold on to your faith & have a positive mind everything will be fine. & dont let doctors pressure you into anything, sometimes I tell myself maybe if I waited a little longer five years, something would of appeared in the sac. There's always a possibility that you are just early on. Good luck!

Its probably too early to see anything... most ultrasounds occur at 12 weeks... thats when it looks like a tiny little gummy bear...

Wow that's good to know, Jodierenee. I'm still not losing hope. I'm scheduled to come in for an ultrasound on Friday so I'm hoping for the best.

Hi Libaby3, how are you? I'm sorry for what happened. I still haven't had any miscarriage symptoms so I still have that hope in me that they just had miscalculations and that my baby is slowly growing. I even when to Disneyland and Legoland (with extra precautions of course) and I'm feeling okay. How many weeks were you when you came in for your ultrasound? And how long did it take until you miscarried? I hope you're feeling better. I know it's really hard to accept, i'll include you in my prayers.
