I have called them 3 times hoping to get a different answer but they all say the same thing. It was grandfathered and doesnt have to provide breast pump coverage required by ACA. If they lose grandfathered status tho then they will have to. I may have to try the appeal route. I appreciate everyones help!! :) thanks ladies
Rented hospital grade medela pump. It was great. Insurance covered it by reimbursement. Hospital gave free tubing and instructions. Highly recommend professional grade pump. You'll get better result (per lactation nurse). I believe healthcare reform says insurance must cover--never heard of grandfather clause. I worked in HR until early 2013 so could be a new rule but I would appeal it if it was me & they refused to pay. Dirty insurance co.!
Emelii got it right I had to pump with my first son because he is going tied and I went threw like 490$ and four pumps until I finally used a medella hand pump I was given Lol and never went back
Medela is awesome. I have been a surrogate twice and pumped for them. One for four months and the other for 13 months.
Medela is awesome! I like the dual electric one. I used a single last time, looking to purchase a dual this time around.
Oh I know! I would have loved to breastfeed but he was too early so I couldn't. I pumped every two and through the night then when he started sleeping longer in the night I'd only pump at night when he woke up. Then I gradually moved to every 3 hours for 20 mins just during the day and then every 4 hours. By the last few months I was at every 5 hours for 15 minutes. Easy peasy. I forgot to mention, get a hands free pump bustier so you don't have to hold the pumps. Makes life so much easier! I eventually looked forward to my quiet 15-20 minute sessions and would read a magazine. Lol
Thank you so much I appreciate it! And I appreciate the pumping advice!! There isnt a ton out there for exclusively pumping that breaks it down for you so thank you for any and all advice!!
Also what I liked about the pump is if it ever stopped working they would overnight you a new one while yours was being fixed if your medical supply store didn't have one you could use. Mine never failed but it was good to know!
I did. I used Medela pump n style. I pumped for a full year and had enough frozen for a few months after that. My son was premature so I was using the hospital grade pump and I felt the Medela was comparable to that. The key is to get a good quality pump and be consistent with your pumping. I never had to take supplements or anything to boost my supply but I set a timer on my phone to pump. When he was born I pumped every two hours (and thru night) for awhile and I think that's what made my supply strong from the start.
