Yes absolutely I am! :-) I had a cesarean with my first bc I quit dilating at 8cm (bc they didnt give me the ok amount of time to progress I was only in labor for 10 hrs so yea) and they said his hr was flucuating no **** that is normal! Anyways they didnt seem remotely concerned which is y I think it was a load of crap! So they ended up doing a cesarean. I have a new doctor this pregnancy and she is very pro vbac and I will be trying one! :-) all natural if I can. I hated the epidural with my first but the pitocin contractions were awful.
Vbac is a good thing to try. It is very possible and I would recommend it. My sister in law had her first by c section because her first baby was to large to have vaginal. She thought the next would be the same and insisted on c section when me and the nurses said she could probably have the next one natural. After her c section the baby was barely 7 lbs and she could have easily had it natural. I think she was just to lazy to try..
Yep! I'd suggest having a look at any interventions you had in first birth- were you induced? Given epidural? Stressed or hurried? A lot of these can contribute to a baby showing up as 'distressed'. Actually a lot of people are pushed into csecs because doctors want to finish... a nurse at my local hospital joked once about the 5pm csec rush so doctors could get home to dinner. Don't know if it's as bad as all that but certainly an emergency csec for distress in baby doesn't mean it has to happen again. Definitely look around for someone who seems enthusiastic about achieving a vbac... a lot of doctors say they will 'let' you try if you fulfil certain criteria and your labour falls within certain time limits (small ones that are not evidence based)... I wouldn't say someone like that is very supportive of vbacs myself... how can you be relaxed and calm (your best chance of success) when you are worried about time?? Choose someone who is as determined as you to achieve it :)
Definitely....alot of women that couldn't have a natural birth the first time around are pretty successful at having a great vbac experience on their next pregnancy.
Congrats and best wishes!!
YES!! Absolutely. "Distress" is a really vague term and it is often used to push moms into surgery who might not be progressing quite as fast as a doctor prefers... it's often not serious or dangerous, HR decels of certain types are a normal part of labor but they throw some people into panic mode.
Find a doctor or midwife who supports your choice fully, and good luck!
