Experienced mothers comment

Ok so this is my first baby and as I am shopping I am curious. My shower is next month but I am buying certain things for baby now to get ready. Oh I'm due late July. Well what did you mothers buy alot of? Newborn? 0-3months?  To add on I am very petite and the my belly is not that huge. And what would you prefer a crib or bassinet?

Hi my suggestions is start buying nappies, babywipes, baby formula anything that you wil use a lot of in the three months.

Totally agree..avoid the temptation to buy tiny clothes! I would actually recommend shopping for the big stuff that shower gifters are unlikely to splurge on: infant car seat, good quality stroller, breast pump if you need one, crib and or bassinet. I used a pack-n-play that attaches to the side of an adult bed as a bassinet, then can be used as a playpen later. We were co-sleeping of course and it worked great. If you are nursing, you don't even have to get out of bed! Resist buying the above items used, even though they can be pricey. It's important that all safety features that come with new stuff are intact and functioning. If you want to get a few cute clothes, go bigger. I'd say six months and up! Also avoid tiny shoes. They are cute, but pointless until baby starts walking. I liked bodysuits/onesies the most during the first year..easy access for diapering. Have fun shopping!

I didn't buy any newborn stuff because my dd outgrew hers in 2 weeks and my son was a 10 pounder and went straight to 3 mth clothes. I'd inly buy a couple 0-3 months since you're having a shower. A lot of people love buying the tiny clothes, so you'll probably get more than you need. I'd buy a couple 3-6, just to have on hand. I did a bassinet with my 2 that they napped in, but they wound up co sleeping with my husband and I. Dd went to her crib at 12 months, because I was 6 months pregnant with her little brother.
Keep in mind that the bassinet won't last too long, depending on the size of it, they'll probably out grow it by 3-5 months.
Not to scare you, I'm also small and my son was 10 pounds ;) my daughter was only 7 lbs 2 oz. But dr says if this one is a boy, then it'll likely be another butterball :)
