6 Week Scan What can I expect?

I have my 6 week scan coming up in 2 weeks. Very nervous about it as I hope all is ok but this is my first baby and I have no idea what to expect or what I will find out as my research has been conflicting. I know I have to drink lots of water before so hoping it's an external scan!

I've had issues with pregnancy had ultrasound done at 6,7,and 8 weeks all were done external. I refused a vaginal ultrasound. I had 1 with 2nd pregnancy and miscarried 2 days later so I'm wary of the vaginal ultrasound.

Mine 6 and 8 week were vaginal. They do ask you to empty your bladder before. However every time I go to the dr. I have to give a urine sample, so you may also.
I saw the sack and pole, did not hear the heartbeat on 6 or 8 was just told what the BPM were.
Every Dr. May be different. I think they are really just making sure everything is starting right, sac, pole and heartbeat.

Good luck!! That's super exciting!!

It will more than likely be a vaginal ultrasound that they will do because you will not be far enough along to see anything too well for an external scan. You will probably see the heart flicker.  It is possible you might hear the heartbeat. You really will not see too much on the ultrasound to get really good pictures since the baby is so tiny and it looks like a circle with a flicker in the middle at 6 weeks. Once you hit about 12 weeks, you will see the arms, legs, and basic face structure.  If they do the transvaginal scan, you will be able to use the bathroom before the scan because they will not need your bladder full like they do from the external ultrasound.

Congratulations on your first baby. I'm 24 weeks with my first. Once you start feeling the baby move, it starts feeling real.
