Flu shot!

Hi ladies
I work at a hospital where they made the flu shot mandatory this year, either you take it before Dec1st or you are fired. I take it every year but i refuse to take it while pregnant. On the other hand I really need my job. I am 22 weeks and I dont know what to do.

As a fellow preggo,  I would not allow any nurse or doctor to care for me if they have not had their flu shot. (: getting your shot helps protect you and others. Especially little ones who aren't old enough to get their shots yet. It's good that hospitals are now making it a requirement. It doesn't make sense that someone in the medical profession would even be allowed to turn it down when dealing with so many people every day.

I find it so weird that working in a medical facility that it would be turned down, but to each his own and you have that right. But I guess my concern would be for the unborn which is why I got the shot and I'm deathly afraid of needles, but my munching meant so much more. But again it is your choice, and like someone stated earlier I don't think they can make you or fore you for refusing. I would check into it and good luck hun!

Last year I got the flu shot under pressure by my husband, I then got the flu that turned into pneumonia and missed over a month of work not to mention the ability to fight off any other illnesses. Call me stupid but what's the point of you're going to get sick any way.... That was in December I was still recovering when I got preggo!! Ugh!!!

I also work in the medical field and I declined it. They just made me fill out a form. It is your decision and your baby not everybody tells your it's safe you are going to change your mind. I have my believes and won't change them to follow the rest, just to be part of the group. Hope they give you the option to decline the flu shot, if not, I guess you will have to get it this time =/

They can't fire you for that ... I also work at a hospital and we are required to sign a form refusing the flu vaccine but then we are also required to wear masks

I got mine two weeks ago and Im due tomorrow. Nothing bad happened. When I found out baby gets some of the immunity I went for it, I would rather him not get sick if posdible. Shouldnt be any worries. I understand, I dont like adding chemicals or taking things I dont need, especially while pregnant. I havent even taken a Tylenol this whole time for pain.

I don't get the flu shot - even while pregnant because I have bad reactions and that usually coincides with me coming down with the worst flu whenever I have tried to get the flu shot (to the point of being hospitalized). That said, I get it if you are against getting the shot - but I would say it depends on how much you need the job. You say you really need the job - is not getting it worth the cost not having the job will be? It's also incredibly hard to find another job while pregnant (I was 6 months and looking for a job with my last and it was awful). I would just very carefully weigh the pro's and con's. Good luck :)

Had mine with no side effects. I've also had the mixed whooping cough. Having a little extra immunity during this time is wonderful for you and your baby.

Bravo to your hospital! All medical facilities should do the same. Common sense step towards prevention.

Am 37 weeks and only have 3weeks to go. Got mine 2 weeks ago as the doctor advice me too and am fine. And also my friend took it last year while she was pregg and told me she knows a lot of mother that didn't take and their babies are always running nose or coughing but that didn't happen to her baby. So it will be advisable to look into it.

I got the flu shot that is for pregnant women  I think it doesn't have mercury in it?  Could be wrong about what it's missing. Never got it before but this year it's a must

You should ask your Dr about the version for pregnant women. In Canada there is another version. Not sure about other countries...

You should if you have to. Best thing is that it is not going directly into your child, you get the ingredients injected but ypur baby just gets the protection. (So do you)

Taking it while pregnant is the best time to. Especially if your job is on the line and you work with such people. And also since your baby well be born during flu season. It won't only protect you but it'll protect baby as well, both inside and outside the womb.

When you are pregnant is the the time when you'd need it the most, especially if you are working in a hospital.
