Having issues using the bathroom

I'm 12weeks and 5days. I on a normal day can use the bathroom like a normal person but the past week has been hard for me. I was told by lots of people not to force my self to go because it could harm the baby. I'm afraid to take a laxitive to help but my belly is so hard and hurts do much I font want more can't eat any thing. I dont want to harm my baby so what should I do???

My OB recommended metamucil and lots of water. Pregnancy naturally causes constipation and the iron in the prenatal vitamins doesn't help either. Metamucil took a couple days to work for me, but it was gentle and worked. I avoided sennakot and laxatives because some can cause spasms and contractions. Adding a little fresh lemon to your water, like a small lemon wedge squeezed in can help with gas.
Hope you feel better soon!

My OB said I could use Senecot sparingly as others weren't working for me.  But I agree with above posts- drink lots of water and eat fiber rich foods.   Cut out or down most green veggies like asparagus and broccoli, dairy and deep fried foods as they actually make it harder to process.  Maybe some Tums in the meantime?

Fiber supplements are fine!  Metamucil, Miralax...check w/ your OB but they're fairly gentle

Totally off topic but I couldn't help but notice that we are both 12 +5!

As for the constipation, I notice when I drink a lot of water, it helps my digestion.

Avoid the grains, it could be making the problem worse, I used to eat them like they say your supposed to and one day out of the blue the constipation/gas pains doubled me over while I was talking to my bro and I passed out and hit my head. I would suggest kick up your veggies it cant really hurt to eat a lot of those, find ones high in magnesium.  Spinach provides 157mg of magnesium, but wash carefully. Also High in magnesium is Pumpkin seeds(yum), and halibut. I do like the idea the prune juice, but i like eating the prunes better.

All bran bars are great or bran muffins.reduce dairy intake until things are moving better. Up you water intake and try doing some stretches or yoga or a walk. It's best not to strain yourself. I don't think it will hurt baby too much if you do but you really don't want hemorrhoids either.
Hope your feeling some relief soon

Eat lots of fiber rich foods, which include fresh fruit and vegetables, beans and whole grains.  Make sure your drinking plenty of water. Also make sure your at least going for a walk everyday. Do not take laxative pills. If your really backed up, I would recommend calling your provider and seeing if there is anything you can take.
