Ftm. scared of the idea of labor! any tips from already mommas?

I'm 37w today! At my last weekly appointment on Wednesday, doc told me that I'm 2cm dilated and 50 percent effaced. Yay!  She says that if I don't have him by Dec 8th (he's due Dec 12th) she'll schedule my induction. I've also lost my mucus plug.  Doc says I'm ahead of schedule so far. My mom thinks he'll be here next weekend. I'm just terrified of labor pains. I don't handhandle pain well. The contractions I've already felt were uncomfortable but not painful but I know once I dilate more it's going to be more painful.  Any tips to stay as calm as possible? Thanks.

I think the fear of the unknown probably made the pain worse for me. I was terrified of everything. This time I know what to expect so I feel like I'll be able to handle it better. The anesthesiologist that administered my epidural was my hero. I considered sending him flowers when it was all said and done. Once my daughter was here the only thing I could relate the experience to was a roller coaster!! Good luck.

My mom told me to breathe and not to tense up. I think that was pretty good advice.  I followed it will my first delivery and have every intention of doing so again. Good luck. You'll be just fine!
