I am 23weeks with my second baby and I have strep b.i wasnt tested with my first baby but I had pain and bleeds at ten weekswith this one so I was tested then . I have been told I need iv antibiotics during labour and will need to stay in hospital for 24 hours afterwards so the baby can be monitored just in case. Two of my friends have had strep b and their babies were fine. There is a helpful website and support group.Gbss I think they are called.

I had it with my first baby and they gave me antibiotics  during labor. He did get a fever the day after birth, but they never said if it was because of the group B strep. He was fine though. A few days in the NICU just to monitor him and then I took him home with no problems. He actually got the fever right after he got circumcised so he could have gotten it from something to do with that too. I wouldn't worry! The worst case scenario is sooooo rare! It's very common. I may have it this time too. I just got tested for it today but I won't find out til next visit if I have it again.

The doctors will give you antibiotics while your in labor. My sister had this with her son and he was just fine.

Its a naturally occurring bacteria. Its not a venerial disease or anything like that. You didn't do anything to get it-its just there. Most some with the bacteria have no symptoms. As long as you are treated with antibiotics during labor & delivery, your baby will be just fine. No worries, mama.
