Efacement and dialating..

So I have a question.. Does one have to happen completely before you move on to the other? Like, does the cervix have to be completely effaced before the cervix starts dialating? Or vice versa.. Or does it not matter which is first and they just bith happen at their own time. Im wondering because my doctor said Im 1 cm dialated but didnt say anything about any cervical effacement..

All those numbers don't mean much. Some Mom's walk around 3 cm dilated for months! Some Mom's are zero on both and give birth 12 hours later. My understanding is that they happen together in labor. Dilatation is how wide cervix gets, effacement how thin. So as you get wider, you get thinner, all a process that each body does a bit different.  Good luck!
