@ Lexus thank you sweetie. Well so far we are good. He's a very healthy 6lb baby boy and he's already been practicing his breathing so they are telling me that's great. I sure wish he would wait at least to 37 weeks but its what ever happens from now on. Hopefully I make it further on. Thanks again

I think when babies are ready they are ready and no one can stop it. The thing is too is some babies jus. May be developed and finished and other babies are still developin. My 10 yr old came a month early she was 6 pounds 8 ounces and 19 1/2 inches long. When they are ready they are ready

My husband was born at 38 weeks his lungs collapsed and he had to be fully resuscitated twice medicine is more advanced but he wasn't breathing when he was born I went be taking any chances cause anything can happen all doctors are different Are can do what they want it's good you trust your doctor that's what matters

The American College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians are pretty much in charge of writing the guidelines for medical practice in the USA. Other countries may look at different studies and develop their own policies but at least across the US it should be standard - any doctors or midwives in this country who haven't followed suit with the new set of guidelines are misinforming their patients and possibly ignoring risk factors and/or warning signs.

I fully agree and understand, lexus, that every pregnancy is different and that some babies born at 35 weeks are perfectly healthy and some babies born at 40 weeks are very sick. But the RISK is higher for preterm babies - which is what I said and what I meant.

My Dr goes by 37 weeks also but either ways I'm 34weeks 6days now and I went into labor last week but was given 2 shots to stop labor. At the hospital they told me if I go into labor again they won't try and stop it bc a lot of times too much medicine is worse then letting the baby be born and after 34 weeks they have a great chance with minimal complications. The shots they gave me were far worse then the actual contractions. I had to be given oxygen bc i couldn't breath , my heart was jumping like crazy , I was dizzy, lightheaded, shaking beyond control.

My Dr goes by what geek mom said... 39 is full term for the state of ma now... Maybe its different state to state or something... They wouldn't schedule my section for a day before 39 weeks and my Dr was booked that day so they moved me up to 39.2

37 is full term and most docs will induce at 38 if u ask! So I don't think all the info is given to all the ladies!

39 weeks is full term, not 37. Standards have changed - there is a lot of development that happens in those last few weeks. Babies born at 37-38 weeks have MUCH higher risk of serious complications than those born between 39-41 weeks. 5lbs would make me very very nervous. Hope your baby stays put a while longer! Glad the babies you know are doing okay.

Once you hit 37 weeks your considered full term and they won't try and stop labor!
